Overview
As a Lawn Operative you will be responsible for delivering a high level of professional service to customers across your treatment area. With training you will be able to identify lawn issues and offer advice on treatments that may be required. Building relationships with our customers is essential; you will therefore talk to our customers on every visit, offering expert advice on our products and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain contact with customers before treatments; call ahead and inform them of visits.
- Visit designated customers daily to apply fertiliser and herbicide.
- Notify customers when work concludes and provide invoice and explanation.
- Inform customers of next treatment date.
- Identify lawn issues and advise on lawn maintenance and further treatments.
- Perform spring and autumn machine work such as aerating, scarifying and top‑dressing using professional machinery.
- Use garden tools – rakes, leaf sweepers and brooms – to clear scarification waste.
- Work independently or as part of a team; physical fitness required.
- Maintain health & safety standards as supplied by Green Thumb Limited.
- Keep company vehicle clean and ensure servicing is completed.
- Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
- Carry out simple service calls when they arise.
- Conduct lawn analyses and produce quotations.
- Support business growth by speaking to potential customers and providing point‑of‑sale materials.
- Maintain and update stock reports when required.
Qualifications & Skills
- Full UK driving licence for manual vehicles.
- Excellent communication and customer‑facing skills.
- Passion for lawn care.
- Ability to work independently, outdoors, and stay active.
- Deliver top‑quality customer service.
- Excellent organisational and time‑keeping skills.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Experience in: maintenance worker, maintenance operative, caretaker, maintenance technician/assistant/engineer/supervisor/manager, facilities, grounds worker, health & safety, estates management, gardener, postal services, delivery drivers, labourer, lawn care, landscaping, lawn technician, customer services, sales.
Working Hours & Compensation
Starting salary: £27,831 + £2,000 OTE.
Annual salary reviews and holiday allowance increase, up to 22 days + Bank Holidays.
Hours: 8am – 4:30pm, Monday‑Friday (with overtime opportunities).
Location: Chelmsford.
