Hours: Part-time, 15 hours per week (consideration will be given to job share applications)

Note that the Scottish Green Group operate a 4 day (30 hour) full-time work week.

Location: Flexible: Opportunity to work from The Scottish Parliament, home working and/or the regionaloffice.

Working for a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP)

MSPs are employers in their own right.

Under their employment, you will become part of a team supporting them in carrying out their duties.

You'll work in a dynamic and fast paced environment to provide an outstanding service for constituents.

Purpose of this role

To provide support to Cara Mc Kee MSP by providing timely communications materials and press briefings.

This role will require a high degree of flexibility and will involve working closely with Cara Mc Kee MSP, her team, regional colleagues, and the wider Scottish Green Group in Parliament.

You must be fully able to support the MSP in carrying out their aims and Parliamentary duties

Responsibilities

  • Producing materials that effectively convey my aims to the general public and media.
  • Keeping up to date with current media developments.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.
  • Corresponding with constituents and local campaign groups.
  • Producing high quality press briefings, speeches, presentations and written materials.
  • Following all media outlets to capture relevant developments as they happen.
  • Filming and editing speeches and turning them into social media output.
  • Maintaining and growing social media presence.
  • Drafting and posting social media content to update constituents on my parliamentary activities.
  • Reviewing social media trends and briefing in issues of relevance to my parliamentary role.
  • Maintaining information systems to support communications.
  • Undertake training and peer-to-peer meetings in line with the role and to build on existing skills.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of various social media and traditional communications channels and a deep understanding of different target audiences.
  • Ability to create and enact a communications plan that remains flexible to changing priorities.
  • Have an interest in politics with the confidence to represent someone in a media-related capacity.
  • Be capable in monitoring media developments and sourcing information from a range of channels.
  • Have the ability to foster good working relationships with confidence to understand how the media world operates.
  • Be creative in designing and communicating over a range of formats on different media platforms.
  • Be able to respond flexibly and creatively to range of requests, such as media enquiries and press releases.
  • Have flexibility using relevant IT skills and writing styles, covering both traditional and newer forms of media.
  • Knowledge of the West Scotland region and a grasp of the issues facing constituents.
