Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a LAS Specialty Registrar (CT4 / ST4+ equivalent) in Anaesthesia. Start as soon as possible. The tenure of all posts is 6 to 12 months, with possible extension. The posts do not attract a National Training Number.

This role is based within existing teams and offers access to departmental teaching and other developmental opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide anaesthesia for a wide range of surgical procedures, including:
    • Cardiothoracic surgery
    • Neurosurgery
    • Obstetrics
    • Complex Urology and Gynaecology
    • ENT and Max‑Fax
    • Breast surgery
    • Plastic and reconstructive surgery
    • Burns surgery
    • Complex Colorectal surgery
    • Upper GI and HPB surgery
    • Orthopaedics and Trauma
    • Spinal injuries
    • Renal services including transplant
    • Vascular and interventional radiology
  • Participate in a 1‑in‑8 on‑call rota, with reliable scheduling at least six weeks in advance.
  • Take part in a Major Trauma response team.
  • Provide anaesthesia at non‑theatre locations such as fluoroscopy, endoscopy, MRI, ECT, and deep sedation sessions.
  • Engage in formal and informal teaching opportunities, quality improvement or research projects, and portfolio pathway development.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Full registration with the GMC and a licence to practise.
  • Right of residence in the UK, or sponsorship provided if not.
Training & Development

The successful applicant will have regular training lists across a wide range of specialties, with areas of interest mutually agreed at interview. Opportunities to build experience and confidence on locally supervised lists are available.

Work Environment

The STH anaesthetic department serves both the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and the Northern General Hospital. The Trust includes: the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, the Northern General Hospital, Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, Weston Park Cancer Hospital, and Jessop Wing Maternity Hospital. The Trust is a Major Trauma Centre and offers a supportive culture of continuous quality improvement.
