This role is a blend of software engineering and data science. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Python-based software development, a passion for and solid ability with mathematics/statistics, and a core understanding of computer science fundamentals.

Our mission is to develop cutting-edge methodologies and tools to accurately quantify cloud emissions, driving sustainability in public cloud usage.
What are we looking for? We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Data Scientist or Data Engineer with 3+ years of experience to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in Python development and a core understanding of computer science and statistics fundamentals. A working knowledge of computer hardware and how infrastructure components like CPUs, RAM, storage, GPUs, and networking affect performance and power draw is desirable. You will play a key role in implementing our cloud sustainability models into our big data products, contributing to our mission of making cloud computing more environmentally responsible. This role requires a scientifically-minded data scientist who will work directly within our engineering team.
What will you be doing?
- Coding updates to our cloud emissions model into our Python-based pipeline.
- Integrating new research findings directly into our codebase, ensuring accurate implementation of methodologies.
- Using Python libraries such as pandas and polars to process large amounts of data.
- Collaborating directly with the platform development team to ensure seamless integration.
- Building a comprehensive understanding of our existing methodologies and identifying areas for enhancement.
- Gathering and analysing data to support and improve our current emissions calculation models.
- Where required, helping orchestrate in-depth research on cloud emissions and their environmental impact.
- Working with AWS services and infrastructure, and touching on Azure and GCP.
- Documenting research findings and implementation processes clearly and concisely.
- Contributing to product discussions, bringing innovative solutions to complex cloud challenges.
- Working as part of a tight-knit start-up team to make our vision of sustainability across the cloud a reality.
What skills are we looking for?
- 3+ years of experience in data science or data-focused software engineering with a focus on Python.
- Passion for solving complex mathematical data problems.
- Strong understanding of computer science principles and mathematics/statistics fundamentals.
- Proven proficiency in data science or a related field, with the ability to handle data collection and analysis AND/OR previous experience in software engineering involving large amounts of data.
- Solid development or coding experience required, particularly with Python and Pandas.
- Working knowledge of AWS or experience working with other major cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with Azure and GCP is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple data projects concurrently.
- Understanding of cloud security and best practices.
- Strong analytical and scientific thinking skills.
