This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Policy lead to play a vital role in shaping ambitious solutions to halt and reverse biodiversity loss.
Greenpeace UK is an independent national/regional organisation within the global Greenpeace campaigning network, which acts to change attitudes and behaviour, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace. The global network of Greenpeace organisations comprises 26 independent national/regional Greenpeace organisations with presence in over 55 countries across Europe, Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, as well as a coordinating and supporting organisation, Greenpeace International.
As our Biodiversity Policy Lead, you will power our campaigns with bold, innovative solutions to restore biodiversity by the end of the decade in a fair and equitable way. You will be at the heart of our biodiversity mission, helping us to think big about the solutions needed to meet the scale of the challenge we face.
You will achieve this by:
- Driving bold, science-led policy solutions to restore nature at scale
- Providing strategic insight across UK and global campaigns
- Working closely with senior leaders, scientists and campaigners to provide strategic thinking, spot emerging issues and opportunities to advance our campaigns
- Responding rapidly to political and environmental developments
- Helping to influence public debate and decision-making at the highest levels
About you
You are a highly knowledgeable and strategic policy expert with a deep commitment to tackling the biodiversity crisis. You combine scientific understanding with political awareness, and you’re motivated by the opportunity to turn complex challenges into bold, practical solutions.
Essential criteria for success:
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of domestic and global nature policy, including key legislative processes, international agreements and governance structures
- Significant experience of policy development and report writing based on research, analysis and science-informed policy development
- The ability to turn complex scientific or policy information into accessible, compelling briefings for a range of internal and external audiences
- Highly collaborative and adept at building strong, productive relationships with external stakeholders and internal colleagues in order to achieve change
- Demonstrable experience of monitoring the policy landscape and identifying emerging issues in order to provide expert advice and influence decision-making in fast-paced situations
- Proven track record of commitment to anti-racism and a strong understanding of how to embed equity, inclusion and anti-oppressive principles into policy solutions.
