Role Overview
You will manage a residential care home for children and young people. You will guide the team in their implementation to achieve better quality of care and life for our young people. You will be responsible for appropriate outcome measures, record-keeping and data analysis. You will lead, manage and support practitioners to demonstrate achievement of performance and activity targets, embed a culture of mindful and continuous improvement, ensure people and performance matters are dealt with promptly, and review and challenge practice and culture.
Our vision is for every young person who lives with us to experience a safe, happy and nurturing present and a future filled with hope and optimism. We work with children and young people from diverse backgrounds who have experienced trauma or adverse life experiences and need specialist therapeutic support in a small residential setting. We offer solo placements with a core care team to provide consistent, trauma-informed, therapeutic care.
To be successful in the role, you will demonstrate compassion, patience, nurture, and a therapeutic approach to care. You will provide leadership and management to practitioners and seniors, build strong relationships with statutory bodies such as Ofsted, and nurture relationships with the local community.
The Ideal Candidate
- Possess significant experience of working in a residential children’s home.
- Have experience in supervising or managing a team.
- Possess an SVQ 4 & HNC in Social Care or equivalent.
- Possess an NVQ level 4 DipSW, CQSW, CSS, Management qualification or willing to work towards.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Understand safeguarding and child protection.
- Possess a full UK manual driving licence and be a confident driver.
- Understand the behaviours displayed by children and young people and be skilled in a range of intervention strategies.
- Have working knowledge of legislation in relation to childcare.
- Have an understanding of the process of child development.

Residential Department – Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop Senior Practitioners to enable them to reach their full potential and achieve their job objectives.
- Monitor and review Senior Practitioners’ performance, implementing improvement where possible.
- Oversee the implementation of Operations, Health and Safety policies through the Care Practitioners.
- Support staff in taking a mindful approach to develop and maintain good relations with key stakeholders.
- Suggest improvements for the development of facilities.
- Manage home budgets monthly to ensure appropriate spending of allowances.
- Ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to by all Residential Care Practitioners.
Young People
- Ensure that the Child Protection policy is always adhered to by staff and that correct procedures are followed for any incident.
- Monitor and report the progress of all young people.
- Maintain regular and effective communication with key stakeholders.
- Ensure that all medical needs of the young people are met and monitored.
- Contribute to young people’s reviews, case conferences, support meetings and other multi-disciplinary meetings.
- Review trends in behaviour to reduce incidents.
Staffing and Recording & Reporting
- Establish outcome measures demonstrating the effectiveness of the homes.
- Supervise and appraise Practitioners and Seniors.
- Ensure attendance to mandatory and required training courses.
- Support equality, diversity and rights of the young people and staff.
- Ensure health and safety compliance.
- Clearly define and monitor residential staff roles and responsibilities.
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with Greenleaf policy.
- Monitor and analyse data to identify trends and devise solutions.
- Report to the business management team.
On-Call and Hours
Managers will be part of an on-call system Monday–Thursday and participate in a rotational on-call system Friday–Sunday within their home or geographical area. Managers are expected to work around 40 hours per week, with core hours 9am–5pm, and may work evenings, nights, weekends and sleepovers as needed. The Company reserves the right to vary duties and responsibilities at any time.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, you must have:
- Experience in a residential children’s home in a management or supervisory capacity
- DBS check for work with children and adults
- Full UK manual driving licence and eligibility for company car insurance
- Relevant qualifications in social care or related subject
- Excellent communication, IT, and teamwork skills
- Understand safeguarding and child protection
