Overview
I’m working closely with an industry leading, well-established multidisciplinary built environment consultancy that has sustainability embedded across everything it delivers — from early-stage strategy through to detailed design and delivery. With over a thousand staff nationally and a strong reputation for technical quality, the business is continuing to invest heavily in its sustainability offering as demand for Net Zero and decarbonisation expertise accelerates. As part of this growth, they’re hiring an Associate Sustainability Consultant into their London team to take a leading role on complex projects while helping shape and develop the wider national sustainability capability.
📍 London | Hybrid Opportunity
This is a senior, hands-on role that blends client-facing leadership, technical delivery, and people development. You’ll work closely with regional and national sustainability leads, supporting high-profile projects across the UK built environment and helping to grow both the team and the service offering.
Responsibilities
- Acting as a trusted sustainability advisor, guiding clients on Net Zero Carbon, decarbonisation pathways, and circular economy strategies.
- Leading sustainability scopes from concept design through to completion on major projects.
- Running client and design team workshops and clearly communicating complex technical outputs.
- Providing technical oversight and quality assurance across energy modelling, overheating, embodied carbon, and building performance analysis.
- Mentoring and developing junior consultants, with shared line management responsibilities.
- Supporting business development through bids, proposals, and client engagement.
Background they’re looking for
- Proven experience in sustainability consulting within the built environment.
- Strong technical grounding across areas such as TM54, TM59 / Part O, Part L, Whole Life Carbon, or Net Zero strategies.
- Comfortable leading projects and engaging directly with clients.
- A genuine interest in mentoring and helping build high-performing teams.
You don’t need experience in every single area — this role is about technical credibility, leadership potential, and impact.
Why this role stands out
- Opportunity to influence sustainability outcomes at scale within a nationally recognised consultancy.
- Clear progression pathway within a growing and well-resourced sustainability team.
- Exposure to diverse, technically challenging projects.
- Hybrid working and a supportive, collaborative culture.
