Greenjets is an innovative engineering company developing high-performance propulsion systems for the aviation market. Our work spans research and development, engine production, aircraft systems, technical integration and flight testing. We are committed to delivering high-grade engineering and best-in-class propulsion for unmanned aircraft. We do things differently. We move fast, we experiment and we adopt technologies that push beyond the current state of the art. Our aim is to go further, faster and more efficiently, while keeping costs competitive. All our propulsion systems are designed, developed and manufactured in the UK. We focus on high quality, reliable and cost effective products supported by a robust, secure and ethical supply chain.
The opportunity: Greenjets is looking for an experienced Business Development Lead to help grow our work across the defence and national security sectors. You will identify new opportunities, build strong relationships with customers and partners, and help turn emerging defence needs into commercially viable projects. This is not a traditional high-volume sales role. You will work with customers early, often before a formal procurement process begins, to understand their challenges and shape opportunities where Greenjets can make a meaningful difference.
What you'll be doing:
- Identify and develop opportunities with the UK Ministry of Defence, defence agencies, Front Line Commands, NATO and allied organisations.
- Build trusted relationships with military, government and industry stakeholders.
- Develop and manage a clear, prioritised pipeline of opportunities.
- Understand customer challenges, future requirements, budgets and procurement routes.
- Create account plans and customer engagement strategies for priority organisations.
- Work with engineering, programme, operations and commercial teams to assess and develop opportunities.
- Support capture planning, bid decisions and the transition of successful opportunities into delivery.
- Represent Greenjets at customer meetings, demonstrations, trials, conferences and industry events.
- Identify and develop partnerships with defence primes, manufacturers, systems integrators, academia and government organisations.
- Monitor the defence market, competitor activity and relevant technology trends.
- Share customer and market insight to help guide Greenjets' product, capability and investment decisions.
What we're looking for:
- Significant experience in defence, aerospace, national security or a related sector.
- A successful track record in business development, capture, strategic partnerships or capability development.
- A good understanding of UK defence procurement and acquisition.
- Experience working with the UK Ministry of Defence or the wider defence community.
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to assess which opportunities are worth pursuing.
- Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
- The confidence to work independently and influence colleagues across different teams.
- The ability to turn complex customer requirements into clear actions and opportunities.
- Experience in any of the following would be particularly useful: Defence technology, aerospace, uncrewed systems, autonomy, ISR, effectors or counter-UAS.
- Working in a high-growth technology business or SME.
- NATO or international defence markets.
- Military service, either Regular or Reserve.
- An established network across the UK defence and security community.
About you: You are curious, credible and comfortable speaking with customers at every level. You listen carefully, ask good questions and build trust through sound judgement and follow-through. You can think strategically while still taking ownership of the practical work needed to move an opportunity forward. You are comfortable with ambiguity and bring initiative, resilience, humility and accountability to your work.
What success looks like: During your first year, you will:
- Build a strong, qualified pipeline of defence opportunities.
- Establish productive relationships with priority customers and partners.
- Improve our understanding of customer needs, future requirements and procurement routes.
- Develop partnerships that strengthen our capabilities and routes to market.
- Help ensure that Greenjets focuses its time and investment on the right opportunities.
Why join Greenjets? This is an opportunity to play an important role in the next stage of Greenjets' growth. You will connect customers, partners and our internal teams, helping us understand where our technology can solve real operational problems. Your work will influence which markets we pursue, which capabilities we develop and how we build long-term value in the defence sector. Greenjets is committed to building an inclusive workplace and welcomes applications from people with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
Please note: The successful candidate may need to meet the eligibility requirements for UK security clearance.
