We are looking for an experienced and highly organised Workshop Controller to oversee the daily operation of our busy 15-bay van workshop. This is a key leadership role, responsible for controlling workflow, maximising productivity, supporting and motivating the workshop supervisor and technicians, and ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, on time and to a high standard. You will act as the vital link between the workshop, service team and customers, ensuring excellent communication, strong cost control, and outstanding customer satisfaction while driving service profitability.

Salary: £35,000 per annum

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 5.00pm, i.e. 42.5 hours per week, 30 minutes lunch break (unpaid).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Control and coordinate the day-to-day workflow of a high-volume van workshop.
  • Ensure all customer information is obtained and stored and parts ready to allocate work effectively to the Workshop Supervisor to maximise productivity.
  • Ensure the day's workload is completed efficiently, with all statutory and vehicle checks completed before shift end.
  • Obtain and verify customer pre-authorisation for all work prior to commencement.
  • Secure additional repair authorisation where required during the service process.
  • Liaise directly with customers regarding vehicle issues, progress updates and repair timelines.
  • Carry out quality checks on completed work to ensure standards are met.
  • Ensure cash-sale vehicles are not released without full payment.
  • Drive workshop profitability through effective time management, cost control and upselling opportunities.
  • Work closely with the service advisors and parts department to support operational efficiency.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all Health & Safety procedures at all times.
  • Support the training, coaching and development of workshop staff.
  • Maintain high administrative accuracy to avoid invoice queries and rework.

You may also be required to undertake additional duties in line with the needs of the business.

Ideally, we are looking for:

  • Previous experience within the motor industry is essential.
  • Experience in a busy commercial vehicle or van workshop preferred.
  • Proven background delivering excellent customer service and administration.
  • Experience with Stellantis products an advantage.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team.
  • Calm, professional and solutions-focused approach with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills across customers and internal teams.
  • Strong organisational and planning ability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive problem-solver with the ability to anticipate challenges.
  • High attention to detail with a responsive yet structured working style.
  • Confident IT skills and workshop systems experience.
  • Relevant vehicle service and management qualifications.
