Are you a time-served Mechanical Technician looking for a hands-on role in a process plant environment? We’re looking for someone to join our Teesside biodiesel plant, supporting safe and reliable production through mechanical maintenance, repair, inspection and installation work. You’ll be involved in both planned and reactive maintenance across a range of mechanical equipment, including pumps, centrifuges, rotating equipment, valves and associated systems. This role would suit someone with strong fault-finding skills, a safety-first approach and the ability to work well independently and as part of a wider maintenance team. This is a 37.5 hour per week role, working Monday to Friday, with the opportunity for overtime and call-outs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance activities on plant equipment.
  • Strip, inspect, service, repair, and overhaul pumps, centrifuges, rotating equipment, valves, and associated mechanical systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and implement effective corrective actions to minimise downtime.
  • Install, assemble, and commission mechanical equipment in accordance with engineering specifications and maintenance procedures.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, mechanical schematics, technical manuals, and maintenance documentation.
  • Support plant shutdowns, turnarounds, and emergency breakdown response activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and maintenance effectiveness.
Maintenance Execution & Asset Care
  • Execute maintenance work in accordance with maintenance schedules and work orders.
  • Assist in developing maintenance solutions using technical documentation, reliability reports, and engineering standards.
  • Maintain plant equipment to maximise operational performance and asset life.
  • Ensure all maintenance work is completed to a high standard and within agreed timescales.
  • Support equipment inspections and condition monitoring activities.
Safety, Compliance & Systems
  • Ensure all activities are completed in accordance with QA, Health, Safety & Environmental (HS&E) procedures and site standards.
  • Operate within permit-to-work, isolation, and risk assessment systems.
  • Support permit preparation and site coordination to ensure safe execution of maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records within the site CMMS/Maintenance Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with site procedures, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Always promote and maintain excellent health and safety performance.
Teamwork & Continuous Improvement
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary maintenance team.
  • Support the Mechanical Supervisor in delivering maintenance and reliability objectives.
  • Foster a positive team culture and contribute technical expertise to improve maintenance practices.
  • Collaborate effectively with Operations, EC&I, Fabrication, and contractor teams.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and be willing to learn new skills and techniques.
  • Support activities at other Greenergy locations when required by the business.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential:

  • Time-served Mechanical Technician with strong industrial maintenance experience, ideally gained within a chemical processing, manufacturing, energy or heavy industrial environment.
  • Level 3 NVQ (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing pumps, centrifuges, rotating equipment, valves, and associated plant equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, mechanical schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Experience working with contractors and multi-disciplinary maintenance teams.
  • Computer literate with experience using maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Strong understanding of permit-to-work systems and safe working practices.
  • Good fault-finding, problem-solving, and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional working skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality workmanship.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to changing business priorities.
  • Positive, proactive attitude with a strong team ethic.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Desirable:

  • Experience within biodiesel, biofuels, chemical processing, or similar industrial environments.
  • Experience working in hazardous areas and with ATEX-rated equipment.
  • Experience supporting plant shutdowns, turnarounds, and capital projects.
  • Knowledge of condition monitoring and reliability improvement techniques.
