Responsibilities:
- Set and operate computer numerical controlled (CNC) lathes to the required performance level in accordance with company policies, standards and procedures.
- Program machines within two of the defined programming groups, when required.
- Review drawings, sketches and specifications to obtain dimensions, tolerances and the number of work pieces required to complete work orders and meet customer quality and delivery requirements.
- Examine machines to become familiar with tooling set-up, change tool offsets to keep dimensions within specified drawing tolerances and according to SPC results.
- Program CNC lathe on machines that do not have DNC access or when the programmer is not available.
- Perform in-process inspection using a wide variety of measuring devices, including contact and non-contact CMMs, conventional measuring equipment and shadowgraphs, and record all measurements on QDS.
- Problem-solve minor issues on your own initiative, make recommendations and program modifications as required.
- De-burr parts with minimal disruption to workflow.
- Complete and maintain all necessary records, e.g., time, part counts, last-piece inspections, etc.
- Inform the Cell Lead or Production Supervisor of any machinery or material problems that could slow down or stop production.
- Maintain a safe, clean and orderly work area in compliance with AS9100 quality standards and Health & Safety at Work Act requirements (1974).
- Work as a proactive member of the Self-Directed Work Team, performing duties assigned by the team and supporting others on technical issues when needed.
- Participate in job rotation and cross-training activities to help ensure the success of the Self-Directed Team.
- Participate in Lean Six Sigma and lead or support others in identifying and documenting process-improvement activities when required.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
- Experience setting, operating and programming within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with measuring equipment and interpreting drawings.
- Working knowledge of CNC machines and how to alter tooling offsets.
- Ability to use required gauges or instruments.
- Working knowledge of mathematics in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
