Job Summary: Operate one or more CNC or manual machines to fabricate production parts to print specifications and quality standards in accordance with company schedules, policies and procedures. Performs other duties, incidental to the job as assigned. Requires a thorough understanding of all company safety policies and objectives and the ability to properly use existing equipment, i.e., milling machines, lathes, grinders, drill, etc. Must be skilled in working within close tolerances and have the ability to use various types of precision measuring devices.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Works from drawings, sketches and specifications in completing various machining operations.
- Performs machine set ups to obtain close tolerances, fitting and alignment of machined parts.
- Obtains required inspections on first pieces of a run according to prescribed procedure and performs inspections on work-in-progress using a wide variety of measuring devices.
- Completes and maintains all necessary records of time, part counts, first piece inspections, requisition forms, etc. for each job.
- Maintains work area in a clean, safe, and orderly fashion and conforms to all quality procedures and standards.
- Responsible for performing routine preventative maintenance of machines according to PM schedule.
- Responsible for operating machinery/equipment in a safe manner.
- Responsible for making jigs, fixtures or other specialized non-production devices as qualified and assigned.
- Responsible for acquiring raw material, supplies, tools, etc. when necessary.
- Assists in the training of other machinists as requested.
- Performs first piece inspections on basic product for other machinists, as qualified and assigned.
- Responsible for grinding tools when necessary.
- Responsible for troubleshooting drawings, machining, tooling, programming, material, etc. and making competent decisions pertaining to job at hand.
- Responsible for utilizing Geometric Dimension & Tolerance as called out on print.
- Responsible for giving feedback on trends, and recommending process improvement.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Certifications: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
Skills and Experience:
- 5+ years of trade school apprenticeship or equivalent shop experience with some experience working with engineered plastics preferred.
- Technical training in shop math and blueprint reading is necessary to perform the job.
- Able to understand GD&T is a plus.
- Able to read and understand basic blueprints.
