Finance Business Partner - Commercial (hybrid 50/50) in Birmingham

Overview

Greene King’s brand and marketing activities are evolving fast as we move to new ways of attracting and maintaining customers. This role will evolve alongside the group’s commercial offer, so it is essential that the role holder can accept and manage change. This will be a fast-paced environment with a high degree of variability. Whilst this role will specialise in an area of Greene King’s commercial offering, it will be important to have an awareness of the entire commercial ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Business partnering with the Commercial function, combining support with challenge as appropriate. Relationships will be important across the finance, commercial and operational communities as well as with external partners and stakeholders.
• Make commercial recommendations based on evidence and experience, having a real impact on the profitability and cash flow of Greene King.
• Use influence to shape decision making and maintain a core focus on critical evaluation. This is not a passive role.
• Producing first rate commercial analysis which will be clear, concise and insight focused.
• Contribute to the Commercial Finance team’s analysis and reporting environment, continually striving for improved quality.
• Support with regular reporting, developing first class reporting solutions and seeking efficiencies.
• Influence the Loyalty team – provide balanced challenge to planned activities, timings, and determine value for money on promotional spend.
• Financial modelling – develop robust financial modelling of all planned promotional activity within Loyalty and Sports.
• Post promotional/investment analysis – review activities after completion, compare to budget/expectations/KPIs, provide insight and analysis on performance; identify drivers and summarise lessons learned for future promotions.
• Work with the Customer Data & Analytics team to understand customer behaviour and how this translates into visit frequency and sales, to inform future promotions.
• Own the reporting on the Digital Engagement Dartboard metric – set targets, prepare monthly packs with insight and analysis to drive performance; provide recommendations to drive change.
• Work with BI to improve reporting on the Greene King App & Loyalty – analyse whether the App is driving the intended benefits of increased spend per head, upsells, and review activity at Till versus App to explore options to drive value.
• Comfortable with both financial and non-financial inputs to draw conclusions.
• Responsibility for production of budgets, forecasts and strategic plans (together “financial plans”) or parts thereof for areas of Greene King’s Commercial offering.
• Take responsibility for key processes such as menu or business case sign off and post investment review, producing relevant governance submissions.
• Deputise as required for peers or line managers.
• Have a service centric mindset, prioritising our ultimate and immediate customers.
• Take responsibility for personal development and collective responsibility for the development of the Commercial Finance team, in particular Analysts.
• Prioritise workload based on the commercial impact. Constantly review priorities to ensure they align with the business.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with significant post qualification experience (3y+) or significant experience in a business facing business partnering role.
• Able to form and develop relationships across the wider Greene King business, along with external advisors.
• Able to analyse complex financial and non-financial scenarios, reach logical conclusions and recommend actions in a clear, concise, and persuasive way.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, able to explain and present technical items in a simple way.
• Ability to flex with changing priorities, prioritising effectively through balancing short-term deliverables with long term objectives to deliver for the business.
• Commercial Finance/Business Partnering experience (with financial modelling/investment appraisal/analysis) is advantageous.
