Overview

As Technical Controller, you lead the site’s technical function and manage cross-disciplinary teams to uphold technical and hygiene standards. You are part of the Site Leadership Team, shaping food safety, quality, and customer-focused governance. You will partner with customers on planning and ensure audit-ready operations while driving improvements. This role offers impact across manufacturing, compliance, and supplier relations within a fast-moving food business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the site technical function and multi-disciplinary teams to meet technical and hygiene standards
  • Be a member of the Site Leadership Team and drive engagement, development, and performance
  • Interface with customers on joint business planning to deliver high standards of service and policy adherence
  • Ensure technical governance and audit compliance across internal, external, legal and customer requirements
  • Create and implement an integrated business plan to resource technical and hygiene activities for manufacturing goals
  • Promote technical improvements to achieve legal compliance and competitive advantage
  • Design and deploy a Quality Management System (QMS) for audit-ready decision making
  • Build the technical team's capability to meet food safety and quality compliance
  • Maintain a safe working environment and comply with Health, Safety and Environment policies

Key requirements

  • Degree in Food Science (or relevant qualification)
  • Advanced food hygiene Level 4 or equivalent
  • HACCP Level 4
  • Level 3 allergen management
  • Level 4 micro biological training
  • Lead assessor qualification
  • SEDEX awareness
  • Experience creating internal audit plans
  • Experience developing and implementing a QMS
  • Experience crafting a technical strategy for a manufacturing unit
  • Project management ability
  • Supplier negotiation and management of multiple external contracts
  • Liaison with government agencies (e.g., EHO)
  • Experience applying advanced food legislation in manufacturing
  • Ability to drive KPI improvement
  • Experience with CIP/Thermal Process and customer-specific requirements
