What you'll be doing
- As a
- Batch Operator
, you'll be responsible for preparing, weighing, mixing and cooking ingredients to produce high-quality food products in line with production schedules and customer specifications.
This is a hands-on role requiring attention to detail, accuracy and a strong commitment to food safety and quality.
Working closely with Team Leaders, Quality and Production Managers, you'll ensure batches are prepared efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, safety and product consistency.
Due to the cooking process and production equipment, this role is based in a hot working environment
, requiring the ability to work safely in warm conditions for extended periods.
Your responsibilities will include
- Weighing and preparing raw ingredients according to production recipes and specifications.
- Operating cooking vessels, mixers and other batch processing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Monitoring cooking times, temperatures and ingredient quantities to ensure product quality and consistency.
- Recording batch information and completing production documentation accurately.
- Carrying out quality and visual checks throughout the cooking process.
- Following recipes and production schedules to meet daily output targets.
- Identifying and reporting equipment faults, product issues or safety concerns promptly.
- Working closely with the Production, Engineering and Quality teams to maintain efficient production.
- Following all Health & Safety, Food Safety, HACCP and GMP procedures at all times.
- Maintaining high standards of hygiene and housekeeping within the batch preparation and cooking areas.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality and efficiency.
- Working safely and effectively in a hot production environment while handling heated equipment and products.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who
- Previous experience in a food manufacturing, production or batch processing environment (preferred but not essential).
- Experience following recipes, weighing ingredients or operating batch processing equipment is advantageous.
- A good understanding of Health & Safety, Food Safety, HACCP and GMP procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow recipes and production instructions accurately.
- Good numeracy and communication skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and maintaining product quality.
- The ability to work in a hot production environment and remain focused while handling heated equipment and products.
- A positive attitude with a willingness to learn and adapt to changing production demands.
- Flexibility to work shifts, overtime and weekends where required.
This role would also be an excellent opportunity for someone starting their engineering career or an entry-level Engineer looking to gain valuable hands-on experience within a manufacturing environment.
You’ll work closely with experienced Engineers and develop a strong understanding of production equipment, fault finding and manufacturing processes.
