A 4-year Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship at Greencore, blending hands-on maintenance training with study at MGTS. Develop practical engineering skills, support production, and learn to keep machinery running in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Keep our food safe by following health, safety, and engineering standards.
- Maintain and optimise machinery to keep production running smoothly.
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance.
- Support machinery changeovers and set-ups.
- Drive improvements through audits and performance reviews.
- Read and interpret task related information and data, including work instructions, SOPs, quality control documentation, specifications, drawings, and operation manuals.
- Plan work and identify resources to complete tasks.
- Identify hazards and control measures to mitigate risks.
- Comply with food safety, health and safety, and environmental regulations and procedures.
- Select, inspect, and safely use maintenance tools and equipment; maintain and calibrate tools where required.
- Follow standard operating procedures and quality procedures.
- Follow site isolation and lock off procedures (lockout, tagout) and reinstatement of equipment with system checks and handover.
- Apply mechanical and fluid power system maintenance practices and techniques, including checks, lubrication, component replacement, and calibration.
- Apply electrical and control maintenance practices and techniques, including use of electrical testing equipment and fault finding.
- Apply reliability engineering techniques to prevent or reduce failures (condition monitoring, thermography, vibration analysis, etc.).
- Install and configure instrumentation, process control systems, and electrical systems.
- Assemble, position, and fix equipment; complete commissioning checks; storage measures to prevent deterioration.
- Read and interpret equipment performance data; produce and amend engineering drawings and graphical information.
- Apply fault-finding and problem-solving techniques using PLC data and industrial networks.
- Apply continuous improvement techniques to understand current performance and devise improvements.
- Restore the work area on completion of activity and escalate issues when needed.
- Use information technology for document creation, communication, and information management, and comply with GDPR and cyber security.
- Record work activity and management data as required by the business and legal reporting requirements.
- Communicate verbally and in writing with colleagues and stakeholders using appropriate engineering terminology.
- Produce reports on equipment performance and provide guidance or training to colleagues or stakeholders.
Training schedule
Alongside your day-to-day role, you'll attend 15 study blocks of 3 weeks in MGTS's training facility in Redditch (mostly during the first two years). As part of these study blocks, you'll gain hands-on experience to become a food and drink maintenance engineer, before applying them in real working scenarios in the workplace.
