What you’ll be doing

As Lead Maintenance Engineer, you will use your engineering skills and problem‑solving abilities to maintain and optimise our processing and packaging equipment to keep our operations running safely, smoothly and efficiently.

Working closely with operational colleagues, you'll diagnose faults, complete repairs, support continuous improvement, and ensure our equipment delivers reliable, high‑quality performance for our customers.

  • Role Accountabilities
  • Prepare for food and drink maintenance work.
  • Conduct planned maintenance of food and drink processing and packaging assets.
  • Conduct predictive maintenance of food and drink processing and packaging assets (condition‑based monitoring).
  • Respond to breakdowns of food and drink processing and packaging assets. Conduct reactive maintenance or corrective actions to resolve deviation.
  • Identify faults (electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, automation, and pneumatics) on food and drink processing and packaging assets, action as required.
  • Lead or support food and drink operational teams with machinery change overs and set ups.
  • Manufacture and repair component parts for food and drink processing and packaging assets.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects to optimise food and drink assets or processes.

For example, participate in failure investigations to ensure process effectiveness and to contribute to and implement practical engineering solutions for efficiency and profitability.

  • Contribute to technical performance reviews in collaboration with other functions and stakeholders.
  • Maintain engineering documentation for food and drink maintenance work.
  • Support maintenance and operational team members in developing engineering technical competence.
  • Ensure availability and performance of maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Contribute to food and drink internal and external audits.
  • What we’re looking for
  • Level 2 Maths/English and a recognised Engineering Apprenticeship (C&G/EAL NVQ 3/4 or OAL FDEM)
  • Ability to complete IET Wiring Regs & Level 2 Food Safety
  • Multiskilled capability or an electrical bias
  • Strong problem‑solving, communication and teamwork skills
  • Knowledge of SHE procedures
  • Experience in fault finding, maintenance planning, IT systems and working to SOPs
  • Mechanical/electrical knowledge including hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, PLCs and sensors
  • Planning works and writing reports.
  • Understanding of asset performance and spare parts management
  • Desirable: IOSH Managing Safely, FMCG experience, continuous improvement, condition‑based monitoring or reliability techniques
  • Fault finding: Electrical & or Mechanical systems.
  • Supervisory skills
  • F&D assets, welding, machining, turning, hydraulic, pneumatic & thermodynamics systems and/or, electrical principals, motors, motor control circuits, motion control, encoders, PLCs, sensors.
  • Knowledge of spare parts management systems.
  • Knowledge of CMMS.
