We are seeking a Commissioning Engineer specialising in utility-scale solar PV projects. This role focuses exclusively on the construction, testing, energisation, and handover phases of solar farms. You will ensure that all electrical systems are installed correctly, tested safely, and commissioned in accordance with project specifications, UK regulations, and DNO requirements. You will work closely with EPC contractors, HV specialists, ICPs, and internal engineering teams to deliver fully operational, grid-compliant solar PV plants.
Skills & Qualifications
- Degree or vocational qualification in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or similar.
- Hands-on experience commissioning utility-scale solar PV or large electrical infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of HV/LV systems, electrical protection, inverter technology, and solar plant controls.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, I/O lists, functional diagrams, and protection settings.
- Comfortable working on active construction sites and performing field-based troubleshooting.
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with EPCs, ICPs, OEMs, and internal stakeholders.
Desirable
- Experience with G99 commissioning and DNO witnessing processes.
- HV authorisation (DNO or private network).
- Familiarity with OMICRON/Megger test kits.
- Experience with hybrid PV + BESS commissioning.
- Experience with SCADA systems, networking, fiber optics, and data acquisition.

Your mission
- Review design packages, installation standards, and commissioning procedures for compliance with project and DNO requirements.
- Inspect installation quality for PV arrays, inverters, combiner boxes, transformers, switchgear, cables, and SCADA systems.
- Ensure all equipment is installed according to UK electrical standards, OEM manuals, and safety regulations.
- Verify HV/MV installation readiness for energisation, including substations, RMUs, switchgear, and protection systems.
- Lead onsite commissioning activities for all solar electrical systems, including string testing, IV curve testing, inverter commissioning, HV/MV cable tests, transformer tests, protection relay testing, and SCADA validation.
- Coordinate with DNOs/ICPs for energisation, witnessed tests, and grid compliance (G99).
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve commissioning issues such as communication faults, inverter trips, protection issues, and performance deviations.
- Validate system performance, including PR, voltage regulation, reactive power capability, and plant controller operation.
- Ensure successful completion of G99 commissioning tests and all DNO-required checks.
- Produce commissioning documentation, test reports, redlines, and handover packages.
- Support PAC/FAC milestones and close out punch-list items.
