# Housing Safety and Compliance Officer**Job title: Housing Safety and Compliance Officer****Location: Sheffield** **Salary: £28,000 per annum increasing to £30,000 once qualified** **Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent** **Reports To: Housing Manager, Sheffield****About the Role**We are looking for a proactive individual to train to become a Housing Safety and Compliance Officer. Based in our Sheffield office, this role will be responsible for ensuring properties meet required standards and regulations, focusing on tenant safety and well-being.The successful candidate will be involved with inspecting properties, identifying hazards, and taking action to rectify issues, regularly liaising with Local Authority & YMCA inspection teams. You will also be involved in investigating complaints related to housing conditions.**Main Duties and Responsibilities**· ComplianceEnsure that properties comply 100% with relevant legislation and regulations. This includes adhering to housing acts, fire safety regulations, and other applicable standards. It also includes ensuring contractors work to agreed standards.· Monitoring and InspectionConduct regular inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure properties are maintained to the required standards. This includes assessing fire risks, water hygiene (legionella), and other safety-related aspects such as asbestos, gas and electric.· Risk ManagementIdentify and assess risks related to housing safety. This involves understanding potential hazards and developing strategies to mitigate those risks.· Liaison and CommunicationCommunicate with tenants, landlords, and other stakeholders to address concerns and ensure compliance.· Record Keeping and DocumentationMaintain accurate records of inspections, actions taken and compliance status to ensure effective management.· EnforcementIf non-compliance is found, you will be involved in taking action to rectify issues and improve standards.**Examples of key tasks**· Conduct Health and Safety and Fire Risk Assessments across our Sheffield portfolio.· Ensure compliance with HMO regulations, fire safety legislation, and other statutory obligations.· Manage & attend appointments with our partners and safety certificate providers.· Deliver Health and Safety training and guidance to staff, ensuring a culture of safety across services.· Investigate incidents and implement corrective and preventative actions.· Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation including risk assessments, logs, and audit records.· Work with the Housing and Maintenance teams and with Landlords to implement safety improvements and oversee remedial works.· Support and deputise for the Housing Manager when required.**What We’re Looking For**Essential:· Excellent communication skills· Must be very organisational with strong administrative and report-writing skills.· Driving license and car for the ability to travel across Sheffield as required.Desirable:· Strong understanding of housing-related safety legislation and HMO compliance.· Experience conducting Health and Safety and Fire Risk Assessments.· Willing to undertake a training programme, some of which may fall within your own time.**Apply now and help us build bridges to a brighter future!****Deadline to Apply:** Monday, 13th October 2025 at 4:00pm **Application Form Return Deadline:** Wednesday, 15th October 2025 at midnight (for applicants invited to complete a form)## Apply for this position #J-18808-Ljbffr
