We are actively looking to engage proactive and analytical Junior Buyer (Commodities) to join our Procurement team based in Nottingham. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career procurement professional to develop their expertise in international sourcing, supplier management, and commodity purchasing. The new role as a Junior Buyer (Commodities) is based in Nottingham on a hybrid basis!

My client is a well-established and growing business with an annual turnover of approximately £75 million, specialising in the sourcing and supply of raw commodities from global markets. With an extensive international supplier network, the company imports key materials from regions across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, ensuring a reliable and sustainable supply chain for its customers. You will join a close-knit team who play a key role in supporting the procurement of raw commodities sourced from suppliers across the globe, ensuring continuity of supply, cost-effectiveness, and quality in line with company standards.

As a Junior Buyer (Commodities) you will report to the Procurement & Supply Chain Manager on a daily basis. You will be responsible for the following areas for responsibility across the Nottinghamshire office:

  • Support the commercial sourcing, purchasing and worldwide logistics & distribution of raw commodities (e.g. agricultural, food, or commodity oils) from international suppliers.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends, cost fluctuations, and new supplier opportunities.
  • Assist with supplier selection, negotiation, and performance management to ensure reliability and quality.
  • Work closely with logistics, finance, and quality teams to coordinate import, export and shipping schedules, shipping documentation, and customs compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, contracts, and supplier data within our ERP systems.
  • Monitor commodity prices, exchange rates, and global market developments to support strategic sourcing decisions.
  • Support senior buyers in developing and implementing procurement strategies for assigned commodity categories.
  • Ensure compliance with all ethical sourcing, sustainability, and corporate responsibility standards.

The successful candidate will have experience within the procurement market for commodities. The Junior Buyer (Commodities) will have the following skills and experience:

  • 2+ years experience as a Junior Buyer or Procurement Specialist within the commodities or food industry, specifically dealing with commodities manufacturers or agricultural producers.
  • Knowledge of the food, ingredients and commodity categories would be advantageous.
  • Excellent commercial acumen and analytical skills.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate suppliers based on requirements, price, quality, speed and service.
  • Commutable to Nottinghamshire on a hybrid basis.
  • Degree or professional qualification in Supply Chain Management (CIPS) would be advantageous, but not essential.
