The Engineering Design Manager will report to the Tendering and Engineering Director and is responsible for product development, sales support, and operational deliverables. This role requires a strong background in electrical engineering, with experience in electrical system design, calculations, installation, and commissioning. Experience in PV systems, BESS, and LV and HV switchboards and panel manufacturing is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assume the role of Product Manager for the company’s BESS product design, development, and lifecycle management.
- Design and develop containerised BESS for both standardised and customised solutions.
- Prepare and maintain product documentation and drawings as required.
- Develop, maintain, and update in-house engineering standards.
- Ensure compliance with the company’s quality programme.
- Evaluate and select equipment, components, and materials.
- Develop and apply advanced engineering concepts and approaches to solve complex engineering problems.
- Investigate design factors including, but not limited to, functionality, durability, performance, efficiency, and contractual requirements.
- Provide technical support to Sales, Marketing, and Business Development teams.
- Provide technical input to support project feasibility assessments and capability alignment.
- Identify and quantify energy optimisation opportunities related to batteries, PCS, HVAC, and FFS across different enclosure systems.
- Collaborate with sales, commercial, and tender teams to develop solutions and take ownership of proposed solutions.
- Develop and prepare technical specifications, proposals, and scopes of work as required.
- Perform complex engineering calculations using established methods and principles.
- Develop single-line diagrams and control schemes in accordance with customer requirements, project specifications, and local codes.
- Produce first cut design and wiring drawings for factory production.
- Review drawings and documentation for factory and/or vendor manufacturing.
- Produce system-wide interface designs and drawings.
- Support factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), commissioning, functional testing, and final handover, including troubleshooting activities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation throughout all project phases.
- Support project execution in resolving complex technical challenges.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job requirements
- Preferably a degree in Electrical Power Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering.
- Prior exposure to BESS, renewable energy, or grid-connected systems is advantageous.
- Sound knowledge of battery systems.
- Strong knowledge and experience in power electronics equipment such as UPS, rectifiers, and inverters is essential.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and MS Office.
- Proficient in spoken and written Chinese, as the role requires reviewing technical documents and communicating with Chinese-speaking clients, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Well-versed in Singapore electrical standards, the Singapore Electricity Act, SP PowerGrid (SPPG) requirements, and other statutory requirements such as the Fire Code and Transmission Code.
- Familiarity with international standards and/or local standards in ASEAN is advantageous.
- Self-motivated with can-do attitude, practice leadership in collaborative manner.
- Adaptable and able to remain composed when project requirements, tools, or methods change during execution.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a systematic approach; well-organised in thinking, structured in execution, and thorough in documentation.
- Ability to travel at short notice.
