An experienced Senior Design Engineer is required to support the design and development of complex driveline and transmission systems. The role involves taking ownership of defined mechanical systems and delivering designs from concept through to production readiness, working closely with lead engineers and cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design driveline and transmission components through concept, definition, and detailed design phases
- Produce 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, assembly drawings, and BOMs
- Perform basic stress calculations, tolerance analysis, and FMEA
- Ensure designs meet system requirements, fit, and functional performance
- Manage and implement design changes in line with engineering processes
- Maintain up-to-date layouts, design plans, and technical documentation
- Support design reviews, including preparation and presentation of design solutions
- Work closely with manufacturing and process engineers to ensure DFM/DFA compliance
- Liaise with suppliers and internal stakeholders as required
- Report technical progress, risks, and issues to lead engineers or project management
Skills & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- Significant experience in mechanical design, ideally within driveline or transmission systems
- Experience with components such as gears, shafts, housings, casings, axles, driveshafts, transfer cases
- Strong CATIA V5 experience
- Familiarity with PLM systems (e.g. Windchill preferred)
- High standard of technical drawing and GD&T
- Able to work to tight deadlines with minimal supervision
- Confident communicator, comfortable working with engineers, suppliers, and customers
