We are looking for a meticulous sub-editor to join our growing newsroom. We are a global commercial property news business with dedicated teams working across the UK and Europe, the US, Canada and Australia. The opening has arisen following a period of expansion both in London and globally. The successful candidate would be based in London, where our head office is in Mayfair, but will have the opportunity to work on copy filed from our other bureaus across the globe.
Job Responsibilities
- Working with the chief sub-editor in London and our global teams to ensure Green Street News’ content is of the highest standard for our subscribers, which includes reading and editing copy, fact-checking, ensuring adherence to house style, maintaining content hygiene (tagging, related stories, hyperlinks, homepage updates), and enriching copy with images, pull quotes, and embeds.
- Assisting the chief sub-editor in administering the editorial workflow, including upload and dissemination via email and social platforms.
- Applying, maintaining, and updating the house style guide.
- Enforcing editorial standards in a fast-paced news team reporting from multiple global locations.
Candidate Profile
- Exceptional command of written English.
- A meticulous eye for detail.
- Several years’ experience working as a sub-editor, ideally on business titles.
- Ability to read, edit and produce sparkling copy under constant hourly deadlines.
- Experience using CMSs, with strong WordPress knowledge desirable.
- Experience editing for online – including content hygiene, web writing, SEO, and social media.
- Experience managing a title’s/business’s social media channels desirable but not essential.
- Familiarity with commercial real estate or comparable financial markets desirable but not essential.
- A collaborative mindset, keen to share in and celebrate the team’s successes.
- A disciplined, controlled approach to tasks, with great work and admin habits.
- Willingness to learn, adapt, and take on instruction, with a positive attitude to personal development.
Compensation, Benefits and Work Authorization
In addition to a basic salary, this position is eligible for a performance bonus and benefits (subject to eligibility requirements). Total compensation is based on several factors including position type, location, education level, work experience, and certifications.
