As our business continues to grow in the UK and internationally, we are looking for an experienced Data & Systems Manager to take ownership of the systems, integrations and data architecture that underpin our business.
We need someone who can understand where we are today, listen carefully to what teams across the business need and turn that understanding into a clear, practical technology roadmap. You will help us create an integrated, scalable and secure technology landscape capable of supporting our ambitions over the next three to five years.
Purpose
You will be responsible GSG's business systems, integrations and data landscape, working across all departments with key stakeholders, to ensure our systems and data are working effectively and efficiently for the business.
A taste of what you'll be doing
Integration & Systems Development (Hands-On)
- Design, code, test, deploy and maintain bespoke SaaS integrations using APIs and webhooks, connecting ERP, ecommerce, CRM, WMS, finance, product information, customer service and BI systems.
- Replace third-party connectors with robust in-house integrations where there is clear commercial, operational or technical benefit.
- Build secure, resilient and maintainable integrations with effective monitoring, logging and alerting.
- Diagnose and resolve integration failures, data-flow issues and system dependencies; provide hands-on systems administration, configuration and user support where required.
Data & Reporting
- Improve the quality, consistency and accessibility of data across the organisation, with clear ownership and appropriate governance.
- Develop reporting and management information capabilities that give teams timely, trusted and useful information.
- Establish appropriate controls around access, data protection, cyber security, backup and
- business continuity.
Strategy & Stakeholder Management
- Review our current systems, integrations and data flows; identify risks, gaps and opportunities; and deliver a prioritised three-to-five-year roadmap aligned with our commercial plans.
- Listen to stakeholders across the business and translate their requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Lead systems implementations, upgrades and migrations end-to-end from requirements through development, testing, deployment, training and adoption.
- Manage external technology partners, providers and consultants while steadily building internal technical capability.
- Assess where new technologies, including AI, can create genuine business value.
Skills & Strengths
- Experience owning or managing business systems within a retail, ecommerce, consumer goods or similarly fast-moving organisation.
- Demonstrable hands-on experience designing, developing and supporting integrations in a production environment.
- Strong working knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, webhooks and common authentication approaches (API keys, OAuth 2.0).
- Experience of data transformation and mapping between systems, including validation, pagination, rate limits, failures, retries and duplicates.
- Confidence working with SQL, relational databases and data models.
- Understanding of cloud or serverless technologies used to host and run integrations.
- A track record of reviewing an existing technology landscape and turning findings into a pragmatic, prioritised roadmap, and of leading implementations or migrations through to adoption.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain technical subjects in straightforward language.
Nice to Have
- Experience with BrightPearl and/or Shopify.
- Exposure to CRM, WMS, finance, supply chain or BI systems alongside ERP and ecommerce.
- A strong grounding in data architecture and governance.
- A good understanding of information security, access management, data protection and business continuity.
- Supplier and project management experience, including budgets, scope and risk.
