Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Quantity Surveyor/SQS to join our team in Derby. The successful candidate will work across a range of civils projects supporting the commercial management of projects from tender stage through to final account. You will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget while maximising value and maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, manage, and report on project budgets, forecasts, and cost value reconciliations (CVRs)
- Measure, price, and value works in accordance with contract requirements
- Manage subcontract procurement, including enquiries, comparisons, negotiations, and appointment
- Assess and process subcontractor applications, payments, and final accounts
- Prepare and submit interim valuations and final accounts to clients
- Identify, evaluate, and manage variations, compensation events, and change control
- Provide commercial support during tendering and pre-contract stages
- Monitor project costs, risks, and opportunities, advising project teams accordingly
- Ensure compliance with contractual, legal, and company commercial procedures
- Work closely with site teams, engineers, and project managers to support delivery
- Maintain accurate records and commercial documentation throughout the project lifecycle
Key Project Areas
- Groundworks and foundations
- Soil stabilisation and improvement works
- Drainage and infrastructure
- Civil engineering works associated with commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civils and groundworks from sectors such as Rail, Water, Highways or Energy
- Experience or strong understanding of soil stabilisation or ground improvement works (preferred)
- Good working knowledge of standard forms of contract (e.g. NEC, JCT)
- Strong commercial awareness and cost control skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant commercial software
- Full UK driving licence
Qualifications
- Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline
- Membership of RICS or working towards chartership (desirable but not essential)
