Job Summary

As the HSE Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of Health, Safety and Environmental performance across utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects throughout the UK.

Working closely with the HSE Country Manager, Project Directors and Construction teams, you'll lead HSE activities across the full project lifecycle - from pre-construction through to construction, commissioning and operations.

This is a hands‑on role focused on driving compliance, promoting a proactive safety culture and ensuring all projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with UK legislation and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Health, Safety and Environmental activities across multiple Solar PV and BESS projects.
  • Provide HSE support throughout pre-construction, construction and operational phases.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits and compliance monitoring across active project sites.
  • Develop, review and approve RAMS, Construction Phase Plans and other HSE documentation.
  • Carry out accident and incident investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure contractors and subcontractors comply with company HSE standards and UK legislation.
  • Liaise with clients, project teams, designers, principal contractors and regulatory authorities on HSE matters.
  • Support project teams with risk assessments, safe systems of work and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare HSE reports, monitor performance metrics and drive continuous improvement.
  • Promote a positive safety culture across project teams and support HSE compliance within the London office when required.

Key Requirements

  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (essential).
  • 5-7+ years' HSE experience on large-scale Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage or similar EPC construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of UK health, safety and environmental legislation and construction best practice.
  • Experience conducting HSE audits, inspections and incident investigations.
  • Excellent knowledge of risk assessments, method statements and contractor management.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence teams at all levels.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A proactive, analytical approach with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Full UK driving license and willingness to travel regularly to project sites.
  • ISO 14001/45001 auditing qualifications and additional NEBOSH certifications would be advantageous.
