The Green Recruitment Company is working with UK power infrastructure projects and have an exciting contract opportunity for an experienced Design Manager to support the delivery of major UK power transmission & distribution engineering projects. This role will suit someone comfortable operating across complex, multi-discipline design programmes and working closely with senior stakeholders.
You will be responsible for managing engineering design delivery from concept through completion, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest technical standards.
Key responsibilities include:- Leading and managing engineering design projects across the UK power T&D sector
- Overall design/project management from early concept and FEED through to construction support and close-out
- Acting as Project Manager on design-only projects and Design Manager on Design & Build / EPC projects
- Managing safety, health, environmental, sustainability, and quality performance across all assigned projects
- Ensuring appropriate project resourcing and effective interdisciplinary coordination
- Developing and implementing project execution plans, policies, procedures, and project controls
- Monitoring and reporting on programme, cost, risk, procurement, safety, and design issues
- Planning and leading project and client meetings
- Supporting proposal development, presentations, and contract negotiations
- Driving a strong Safety by Design culture throughout all project stages
- Maintaining compliance with relevant industry standards, statutory requirements, and internal management systems
- Supporting client relationships, regulatory engagement, and wider stakeholder management
- Providing line management support, mentoring, and development of engineering staff
- Contributing to business development, client engagement, and identification of future opportunities
- Supporting skills development, recruitment activities, and candidate interviewing as required
- Strong background in power transmission & distribution engineering projects
- Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary design teams
- Solid project management capability (APM, PMP, PRINCE2 or similar)
- Strong understanding of UK regulatory, planning, and permitting environments
- Excellent stakeholder, client, and contractor management skills
- Commitment to safety, quality, and technical excellence
- Ability to work on-site regularly in Glasgow
