We are supporting a leading power infrastructure business in the search for a Director of Project Management . This senior leadership role oversees the end-to-end delivery of large-scale transformer and GIS projects for major UK clients.The successful candidate will take ownership of project delivery from contract handover through design reviews, manufacturing oversight, FATs, logistics, installation, commissioning, and long-term maintenance. You will provide strategic guidance to internal project managers, coordinate contractors and suppliers, and act as the senior client-facing contact for key accounts.This is a high-visibility role with responsibility for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and in full compliance with technical and regulatory standards.Key Responsibilities: Lead project governance across the full lifecycle – from design review to commissioning and maintenance.
Serve as senior point of contact for clients, ensuring requirements are captured, agreed, and delivered.
Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to internal project managers and engineering teams.
Oversee factory acceptance tests (FATs), audits, and quality checks.
Drive collaboration across engineering, procurement, contractors, and logistics partners.
Ensure compliance with National Grid, Scottish Power, and wider industry regulations.
Required Experience and Skills: Extensive experience managing transformer / GIS projects in the UK power sector.
Strong background across design, FATs, installation, and lifecycle support.
Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Experience working with major utilities (ideally National Grid / Scottish Power).
Project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, APM) is desirable.
