Role Overview
We are seeking a driven and entrepreneurial Business Development Manager to lead frontline commercial activity and support rapid client acquisition. Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a highly visible, hands-on role with responsibility for revenue generation and market development. This opportunity is well suited to either:
- Candidates with direct experience in biospecimen or biobanking sales, or
- Individuals with a strong life sciences background (e.g. biology, biomedical science) combined with sales, client-facing, or project management experience, looking to transition into a commercial role.
You will play a key role in establishing the company as a trusted partner within the life sciences research ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales- Identify, target, and win new clients across pharma, biotech, CROs, diagnostics, and academia
- Manage the full sales cycle from lead generation through to negotiation and deal closure
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline aligned to revenue targets
- Present tailored biospecimen solutions based on client research needs
- Support proposal development and pricing discussions
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients
- Act as a primary commercial point of contact
- Collaborate internally to ensure successful project delivery
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and research demands
- Identify opportunities for new services, specimen types, or expansion
- Provide feedback to leadership on customer needs and positioning
- Support development of relationships with biobanks, hospitals, and research institutions
- Contribute to expansion of sourcing capabilities
- Work closely with the CEO and cross-functional teams
- Help build and refine sales processes, CRM systems, and reporting
- Represent the company at industry events and conferences
- Contribute to a high-performance, collaborative startup culture
Qualifications
Required- Experience in business development, sales, account management, or project management within life sciences or a related field OR a strong academic background in life sciences with commercial exposure or a clear interest in moving into a sales role
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Self-starter with the ability to operate in a fast-paced startup environment
- Strong organisational skills and ownership mindset
- Experience in biospecimen, biobanking, or CRO services sales
- Understanding of biospecimen sourcing, research workflows, or regulatory considerations
- Existing network within pharma, biotech, or academic sectors
- Experience in client-facing scientific or project-based roles
