We're looking for a compassionate and detail–oriented Family Assessment Practitioner Worker to join our team at The Groves Family Assessment Centre. This is a Grade 1 position, ideal for someone with some relevant experience who is working towards Level 3 qualifications, or who is newly qualified and ready to build a career in family support and social care.

In this role, you'll work directly with families in placement, supporting weekly assessment plans, modelling positive parenting practices, and helping our team build a clear, accurate picture of each family's needs and progress. Success in this role looks like consistently high‑quality observations and recordings, families who feel supported and guided rather than judged, and a Centre that runs smoothly day to day because of your reliability and care.

You'll report into the Centre Managers and work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team, playing a key part in helping vulnerable families move forward safely.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate, detailed daily recordings to support each family's weekly assessment plan
  • Observe and document child–parent interactions to help evaluate parental ability and family dynamics
  • Teach and model effective parenting skills and practices to families
  • Guide parents in understanding and meeting their children's emotional and physical needs
  • Monitor and evaluate how interventions affect children's emotional and physical wellbeing
  • Assess the impact of parenting practices on child development and safety
  • Facilitate and complete structured family sessions in line with assessment plans and the Centre's framework
  • Support Centre Managers with the day‑to‑day running of the Centre and staff coordination
  • Help maintain a good standard of childcare and general house management across the Centre
  • Work within the Regulations and standards for Residential Family Centres
  • Follow established frameworks for assessing children in need and their families
  • Promote safeguarding and adhere to all relevant policies and procedures
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain relevant observations of families in placement
  • Keep clear, detailed, and accurate electronic recordings
  • Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns, recording and escalating them to the relevant manager
  • Act as a positive role model
  • Advise and support parents as needed to help maintain safety
QualificationsEssentials
  • Experience in family support, social care, or a related field
  • Strong observational and documentation skills
  • Ability to teach and model parenting practices
  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and child development
Desirable
  • Relevant qualifications in social care, childcare, or psychology
  • Experience working in a residential or family assessment setting
Personal Attributes
  • A compassionate and supportive approach to working with families
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Organised and detail‑oriented, with the ability to prioritise tasks
  • Commitment to maintaining professional boundaries and objectivity
