Job Title:Events & Café Manager
Reporting To:General Manager
Hours:Full Time - working across a 7-day operation including weekends, evenings and bank holidays as required.
Job Description:
TheEvents & Café Manageris responsible for the day-to-day management of the catering operation at London Museum Docklands, ensuring the café and events services are delivered to the highest standards.
Working closely with the General Manager, this role provides operational leadership across all food and beverage services, supports the commercial performance of the business, develops the team and ensures exceptional customer service.
When the General Manager is not on site, the Events & Café Manager assumes responsibility for the entire catering operation, acting as the senior operational lead and making decisions that ensure the smooth running of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Manage the daily operation of the museum café and events services.
- Lead all event catering operations.
- Ensure excellent customer service standards are maintained at all times.
- Monitor service standards and continuously improve the customer experience.
- Maintain high presentation standards throughout the café, event spaces and back-of-house areas.
- Ensure the operation is fully prepared for daily trade, functions and special events.
- Resolve customer complaints professionally and efficiently.
- Support the delivery retail offers and promotional activity.
Events
- Liaise with museum event teams, clients and suppliers to ensure successful event delivery.
- Produce staffing plans for events.
- Coordinate room setups, catering equipment, beverage service and event logistics.
- Monitor event costs and labour to maximise profitability.
- Conduct pre-event briefings and post-event reviews.
- Ensure all dietary requirements and special requests are accurately delivered.
People Management
- Lead, coach and motivate café and events teams.
- Support recruitment, onboarding and training of new employees.
- Carry out regular performance reviews and probation meetings.
- Deliver daily team briefings.
- Create a positive working culture focused on teamwork and accountability.
- Manage staffing levels according to business demand.
- Assist with rota planning to ensure labour is controlled while maintaining service standards.
- Ensure all staff complete mandatory training.
Financial Responsibilities
- Complete daily trading reports.
- Monitor stock levels and minimise waste.
- Support stocktakes and investigate variances.
- Ensure purchasing follows company procedures.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Food Safety, HACCP and Health & Safety legislation.
- Maintain excellent food hygiene standards.
- Ensure all cleaning schedules are completed.
- Carry out regular operational audits.
- Report maintenance issues promptly.
- Ensure all statutory compliance documentation is completed.
Leadership Responsibilities when GM is absent
- Act as Duty Manager for the entire catering operation.
- Make operational decisions on behalf of the General Manager
- Lead all managers, supervisors and front-line teams.
- Manage staffing issues and customer escalations.
- Liaise with museum management.
- Ensure service standards and financial controls are maintained.
- Take responsibility for emergency situations and incident management.
