We have partnered with a market leading provider of innovative renewable energy solutions across the South of England who are hiring now for a Design Manager to lead their Engineering team, based in Greater London, on a full-time permanent basis.

Purpose of the Role

The Design Manager will lead the technical design function managing a small team of Designers, assuming full responsibility for the design process working within the renewable energy industry focussing on heat pump networks, solar installations, MVHR as well as M&E solutions. The Design Manager will be the senior, technical authority for the design and installation teams ensuring designs are meticulously detailed, managing the departments workflow, implementing robust & thorough Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes as well as triaging design requests working closely with internal & external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and manage a small team of Design Engineers
  • Managing project designs from the pre-start handover
  • Leading and managing client engagement on D&E projects, working closely from initial scoping through to stage-5 designs & adaptations
  • Managing the queue of design work and triaging requests where required to make sure SLA’s are being adhered to
  • Produce detailed technical designs for renewable energy systems including heat pumps, solar PV, MVHR, and complete M&E solutions.
  • Calculate heat loss/gain and conduct room-by-room analyses for precise system sizing.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for site supervisors and installation teams to resolve technical queries, ensuring designs are practical and implementable.
  • Implement and manage BIM processes and ensure alignment with standard RIBA stages.

Person Specification

  • Strong understanding of BIM processes
  • A working knowledge of RIBA design principles
  • Strong background working with AutoCAD, Revit, IES, EasyPV or any other relevant design software
  • Previous experience with UK building regulations and renewable energy standards
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Proven, demonstratable experience in designing renewable energy systems
  • Excellent communication skills, able to communicate clearly internally and externally
