Are you an experienced premises or facilities professional, with experience of Health and Safety Management, looking for a role where your expertise can make a real difference? The Orchards Federation is looking to appoint an outstanding Premises and Health & Safety Manager to lead the effective management, safety and development of our school sites (Cherry Tree Primary School, Green Fold Special School and The Orchards Nursery School). This is a key role within our Federation, responsible for ensuring that our pupils, staff, families and visitors have safe, welcoming, well-maintained and fit-for-purpose environments in which to learn and work.
Working across our four Federation sites, you will take a strategic and operational lead in premises management, health and safety compliance, facilities management and contractor coordination. This is an exciting opportunity to:
- Lead and develop health and safety compliance across multiple school sites.
- Oversee planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring our buildings and grounds are safe and well maintained.
- Manage and support our caretaking teams, developing their skills, confidence and effectiveness.
- Coordinate contractors and suppliers, ensuring high standards, value for money and compliance.
- Lead on statutory checks, facilities risk assessments, fire safety, COSHH and other key areas of compliance.
- Undertake regular site inspections and audits, identifying risks and ensuring that actions are followed through.
- Contribute to the Federation's longer-term estate planning and premises development.
- Help ensure our specialist provision and facilities continue to meet the needs of our pupils.
- Respond confidently and effectively to emergencies and urgent premises issues.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience in premises, facilities or site management and understands the importance of maintaining safe, compliant and welcoming environments.
- Is an organised, proactive and solution-focused professional who can confidently manage competing priorities across several sites.
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and is able to build positive relationships with school leaders, staff, contractors and external agencies.
- Has experience of supervising or managing staff and is able to lead, motivate and develop a team.
Applicants must hold a valid licence (such as a standard UK Category B licence) and need access to their own insured vehicle. An IOSH or NEBOSH qualification would be essential, as would Asbestos and Legionella awareness qualifications. We are also happy to consider candidates who are willing to undertake appropriate professional development.

The details:
- Salary: Grade 8 £37,035 - £40,476
- Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, all year round.
- Working pattern: Flexible between 6.00am and 6.00pm, with core patterns including 7.00am-3.00pm, 8.00am-4.00pm or 10.00am-6.00pm. Occasional work outside these hours may be required for emergencies or operational needs.
