With continued expansion and increasing demand for low-carbon technologies, we are seeking a Heating System Design Engineer to support our growing project portfolio. This role offers the opportunity to work on varied projects and play a key role in supporting the transition to sustainable energy.
The Heating System Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and delivery of compliant, efficient, and reliable heating systems for both domestic and commercial applications. The role will involve designing traditional and low-carbon heating solutions, including renewable technologies such as heat pumps, while ensuring full compliance with UK & Irish regulations and industry standards. You will work closely with installation teams, project managers, and clients to provide technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities- Design domestic and commercial heating systems in line with project and client requirements
- Carry out detailed heat loss calculations and accurate system sizing
- Design low-carbon and renewable heating systems, including heat pumps
- Produce technical drawings, schematics, and design specifications
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK & Irish building regulations and industry standards
- Review and interpret technical information, surveys, and project documentation
- Liaise with installation teams to support efficient and compliant system delivery
- Provide technical input and support throughout design, installation, and commissioning stages
- Identify and resolve technical design issues as they arise
- Experience in heating system design (domestic and/or commercial)
- Strong technical understanding of heating systems and renewable technologies
- Demonstrable experience in heat loss calculations and system design principles
- Good working knowledge of UK building regulations and compliance standards
- Experience using heating design, calculation, and drawing software
- Ability to interpret technical data and drawings
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
- Essential HNC / HND, Degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience in heating system design
- Ability to carry out heat loss calculations and apply core system design principles
- Working knowledge of UK building regulations (knowledge of Irish regulations advantageous)
- Valid UK Driving Licence
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Desirable Experience designing low-carbon or heat pump systems
- MCS / Heat Pump system design knowledge
- Specific heating or renewable qualifications (e.g., BPEC, CIBSE, City & Guilds)
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIBSE, IET, IMechE)
- Experience working on complex or innovative heating projects
