We are a Finance Director practice that additionally provides accounting and bookkeeping services to our clients. Whether working with clients, suppliers, regulatory authorities or our internal team, we're after someone who will keep our clients' accounting records in excellent order and who communicates a desire to help with absolute integrity.
Role Overview:
As a Senior Bookkeeper at Green Caterpillar Consulting, you will play a key role in supporting a portfolio of ambitious SMEs, charities and growing organisations. Working as part of our finance team, you will help clients achieve financial clarity and confidence through accurate financial management, robust processes and high-quality financial information. This is a hands-on role requiring strong bookkeeping expertise, and the ability to work across multiple organisations and systems. You will support clients with their day-to-day finance operations while contributing to finance transformation projects that improve processes, reporting and scalability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for a portfolio of clients, ensuring deadlines are consistently met.
- Process invoices, payments, receipts and journals efficiently and accurately.
- Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations and support effective cash flow management.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns in accordance with HMRC requirements.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate transactions.
- Support the preparation of management accounts and other financial reporting requirements.
- Process payroll and pension submissions where applicable.
- Assist with audit preparation and liaise with external accountants and auditors as required.
- Ensure financial data is managed securely and confidentially in line with GDPR requirements.
- Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities where required.
- Build trusted relationships with clients, providing a responsive and professional service that reflects Green Caterpillar's values.
- Contribute to finance transformation projects, including process improvements, systems implementations and the adoption of best practice finance procedures.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver high-quality support and continuous improvement across our client portfolio.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
Essential:
- AAT Level 3 qualification (or equivalent experience).
- Strong bookkeeping experience across a range of organisations with a preference for charity and/or not-profit environments.
- Credit Control knowledge and experience.
- Experience using cloud-based accounting systems, including Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or similar.
- Good understanding of UK VAT, PAYE and financial compliance requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with colleagues and clients.
- Adaptable and comfortable working through change and process improvement initiatives.
Desirable:
- AAT Level 4 qualification.
- Experience working within the housing sector.
- Knowledge of the software Arthur.
- Experience supporting management accounts preparation.
- Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs and data analysis.
- Experience supporting audit processes and finance transformation projects.
