Eden Scott are delighted to be supporting Green Cat Renewables with the appointment of a Senior Process Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Process Engineering professional to join a growing team at an exciting time.

The Company

Green Cat Renewables (GCR) is a dynamic, innovative company that provides the complete range of technical services required to deliver renewable energy projects (wind, solar, BESS, hydrogen, and hybrid). The team of over 100 Engineers and Environmental Consultants deliver projects on behalf of clients from four offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Livingston, and Biggar.

Through the Engineering Department, the company provides Engineering Consultancy and Project Management services to Clients. We are now growing our hydrogen focused team within the department to support the development of electrolytic hydrogen projects as part of the global energy transition and decarbonisation strategy. As a key part of this team, we are seeking a skilled Process Engineer with a chemical engineering background and a strong focus on process safety. The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad range of process engineering tasks, ensuring safety, compliance, and optimal performance in our projects.

The Role:

  1. Delivery of all process engineering activities through feasibility, pre-FEED, FEED, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and operation of green hydrogen projects.
  2. Management of the process engineering aspects of multi-disciplinary projects in complex environments to schedule and budget.
  3. Development of process engineering work scopes, deliverable lists, and resource requirements, for each project phase.
  4. Development of standard templates for engineering deliverables, such as equipment sizing, line sizing, utility sizing, and pressure relief system calculations.
  5. Ensure the design complies with relevant safety regulations and standards, participating in HAZID / HAZOP studies, SIL assessments, ALARP assessments, and LOPA.
  6. Responsible for the creation of high-quality technical documentation throughout the engineering lifecycle, such as heat & material balances, process models, engineering calculations, specifications, datasheets, and technical reports.
  7. Active engagement in the entire technical procurement process, including technology assessment, OEM engagement, system sizing, equipment selection, analysis of value in use, FAT, SAT, and commissioning.
  8. Authoring, updating, and approving process engineering drawings, including, but not limited to block diagrams, process flow diagrams, and Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  9. Ensuring that engineering solutions meet all functional, performance, and safety requirements, with consideration of project commercials.
  10. Input into the development of project execution plans, including commissioning & acceptance test procedures and performance testing requirements.
  11. Establish operating guidelines for startup, shutdown, special cases, turndown, and emergencies.
  12. Mentor and support junior engineers within the engineering and project team(s).
  13. Work closely with project management, engineering teams, and external stakeholders to meet project deliverables.
  14. Work with department management to develop the hydrogen development support offering.

The Candidate:

  1. A minimum of 5+ years of experience in process engineering in design or operations environment.
  2. A bachelorโ€™s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
  3. Demonstrated success in design and optimisation of chemical processes, with a strong emphasis on process safety.
  4. Experienced in the development of standard process engineering deliverables/calculations and technical assurance of the work of other engineers.
  5. Expertise in risk assessment methodologies and process safety management.
  6. Familiar with typical project stage gate processes and the process engineering deliverables/activities normally conducted during each project stage.
  7. Proficiency in process simulation and use of relevant software tools.
  8. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  9. Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  10. Willingness to travel as necessary, supported by a valid UK driving license.
  11. Have the right to work in the United Kingdom, full-time, in perpetuity.
  12. Experience in the hydrogen, renewable energy, and/or industrial gases sectors.
  13. Familiar with industry-specific standards for process design, such as ISO 4126/API 520/API 521, IEC 60079, PED, NFPA-2, ISO 22734, IEC 61511.
  14. Familiar with the requirements of UK HSE legislation, such as PE(S)R, PSSR, DSEAR, COMAH.
  15. Experience of site-based commissioning/operations for hazardous process plant.
  16. Professional accreditation or active membership in recognised engineering institutions.
  17. An entrepreneurial spirit and drive to develop a first-class engineering service.
