Green Cat Renewables (GCR) is a dynamic, innovative company that provides the complete range of technical services required to deliver renewable energy projects. The team of over 110 engineers and environmental consultants deliver projects on behalf of clients from three offices in Edinburgh, Livingston and Biggar. GCR also works closely with its four sister companies Green Cat Hydrogen (GCH) and Green Cat Contracting (GCC) based in the UK, Green Cat Renewables Europe (GCRE) based in the Netherlands, and Green Cat Renewables Canada (GCRC).

Through the Engineering department, the company provides engineering consultancy and project management services to clients. This includes planning condition discharge; civil, structural and electrical design; hydrology and energy yield analysis; procurement; project finance technical assistance; contract preparation, negotiation and management; site supervision; civil, mechanical and electrical inspections; and other requirements relating to the design and construction of wind, hydrogen, solar, storage and hybrid projects.

Green Cat Renewables requires a Grid Specialist to join the Engineering team in either the Edinburgh or Glasgow office.

The Role

  • Prepare and submit grid connection applications at distribution and transmission level, manage through the offer and acceptance process to construction and energisation.
  • Engage and liaise with stakeholders (Network Operators, ICPs, OEMs) for pre-application meetings, grid offer discussions and post-connection requirements.
  • Evaluate project risks in relation to grid connection availability, timescales and cost and establish mitigation strategies.
  • Undertake assessment of grid capacities on distribution and transmission networks for varying types of generation technologies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key industry stakeholders.
  • Provide specialist guidance on grid connection issues throughout the company (feasibility, planning, due diligence, construction).

The Candidate:

Essential

  • 3+ years’ experience working in the renewable and/or power generation industry.
  • Knowledge of the current UK Grid Code, ENA G99 engineering requirements and other relevant regulations and standards, with an understanding of how these are evolving.
  • Understanding of relevant standards and recommendations such as ENA TS 41-24, P28, P29 and G5.
  • Ability to review grid connection offers, interrogate, and negotiate with the DNO/TSO to optimise the offer both technically and commercially.
  • Experience in technical engagement with customers and other stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding and experience of the grid application process, including the new Gated connection process.
  • Strong understanding of the commercial and technical issues associated with connecting to the grid - particularly in Scotland.
  • Strong problem solver and good communicator.

Desirable

  • Current active participant on industry grid forums/code modification working groups and/or prepared to represent GCR on those forums.
  • Experience in reviewing consultation documents and writing detailed responses on behalf of GCR.
  • Relationships and contacts within UK DNO and TNOs (SSEN and SPEN in particular).
  • Ability to refine site designs and connection offers to ensure the best value solution is being offered.
  • Valid Driving Licence and willingness to travel when required.
