Green Cat Hydrogen Limited (GCH) is a dynamic and innovative green hydrogen project developer. GCH focus on the deployment of electrolytic hydrogen projects as a key part of the global energy transition and de-carbonisation strategy. The business works closely with sister companies through the planning, permitting/licensing, engineering and design and construction of green hydrogen projects.
We are seeking an experienced Principal Safety Manager to lead the process safety design activities for our projects (feasibility through to operation), and oversee our internal Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) initiatives. This is a senior full or part-time position (minimum 3 days per week).
The Role:
- Oversee and lead the development of internal safety design activities (e.g. SIL assessments, HAZOP studies, LOPA analyses and COMAH) for our projects.
- Manage and provide technical review of out-sourced safety design activities to third parties.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and represent the company in safety-related matters.
- Lead project safety initiatives, including risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations.
- Ensure operational safety through the development of safe operating procedures, emergency response plans, disaster recovery plans, and safety training programs.
- Help develop and implement a plan for the company to achieve ISO accreditations (9001, 45001, and 14001)
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of facilities and project sites.
- Provide expert safety advice to senior management and safety engineers.
- Develop and monitor key safety performance indicators (KPIs).
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety management systems across various areas of the business, fostering a culture of safety awareness throughout the organisation.
- Oversee HSE policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and industry best practices.
The ideal Candidate must have:
- 8+ years of experience in process safety design within relevant industries (e.g., hydrogen, Oil & Gas, renewable energy, industrial gases, or chemical processing).
- Experience in leading HAZOP, HAZID, SIL assessments, and other safety studies.
- Strong understanding of process safety management principles.
- Extensive knowledge of UK safety regulations and standards.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing safety management systems.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to influence at all levels of the organisation.
- Willingness to travel as necessary, supported by a valid UK driving license.
- Have the right to work in the United Kingdom, full-time, in perpetuity.
The Candidate would benefit from:
- Chartered status with a relevant professional body.
- Familiarity with industry-specific standards for process safety, such as ISO 9001, ISO 31000, IEC 60079, PED, ATEX/DSEAR, NFPA-2, ISO 22734, IEC 61511, ISO 45001 and COMAH.
