About the Company Our client, based in Leeds, is a leading domestic retrofit installation company specialising in improving the energy efficiency and sustainability of homes. Role Overview As SHE Manager, you will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and managing all aspects of Health, Safety, and Environmental (SHE) compliance across a range of domestic retrofit projects. This position combines strategic leadership with hands-on operational management, providing expert advice and practical support to ensure a safe, compliant, and sustainability-focused working culture throughout the business. While the role offers hybrid working, the successful candidate will be expected to make regular site visits — both planned and reactive — to support projects and maintain strong visibility across the organisation. Sitting within the Senior Leadership Team, the SHE Manager will bring commercial awareness and a clear understanding of how effective SHE management enhances operational performance and strengthens client relationships. Key Responsibilities * Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s SHE management systems in line with legal, regulatory, and industry standards. * Conduct regular site audits, inspections, and risk assessments to ensure safe working practices across all retrofit activities. * Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis, ensuring effective corrective and preventive actions are taken. * Deliver SHE training, toolbox talks, and ongoing guidance for site teams, contractors, and management. * Drive environmental initiatives, including waste management, carbon reduction, and sustainability improvement projects. * Monitor, analyse, and report SHE performance, producing accurate KPIs for senior leadership. * Act as the organisation’s main point of contact with regulatory bodies (HSE, Environment Agency, local authorities). * Foster and promote a positive health and safety culture across all levels of the business. Skills, Qualifications & Experience Essential – MUST HAVE! * NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent). * Proven experience managing SHE duties within social housing refurbishment or retrofit projects, acting as both Principal Contractor (PC) and Principal Designer (PD). * Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and management of notifiable projects on domestic properties. * Demonstrable track record in implementing and maintaining SHE systems to ensure full legislative compliance. * Excellent communication, leadership, and influencing skills at all organisational levels. * Knowledge of environmental management systems (ISO 14001 desirable). * Scaffold Design and Management qualification. * SMSTS certification. Desirable: * IEMA certification or equivalent environmental qualification. * Internal or external auditing experience. * Technical qualification or accreditation in Gas or Electrical installation.
