Our client is a specialist contractor within the roofing and cladding sector, delivering high-quality building envelope solutions across a wide range of projects. Due to continued growth and an increasing design workload, they are seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead and coordinate the design function from pre-construction through to project delivery. This is a key role within the business, responsible for managing design teams, driving technical excellence, and ensuring design programmes align with commercial and site requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the design process for roofing and cladding projects from tender through to installation
- Lead, coordinate, and mentor the internal design team
- Act as the main point of contact for all design-related matters
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, main contractors, and site teams
- Manage design programmes, deliverables, and approvals
- Ensure compliance with building regulations, project specifications, and industry standards
- Oversee RFIs, design changes, and value-engineering solutions
- Support continuous improvement of design procedures and standards
- Attend and chair design meetings as required
Required Experience & Skills
- Proven experience as a Design Manager (or Senior Designer stepping up) within roofing, cladding, façades, or building envelope
- Strong technical knowledge of roofing and cladding systems and construction detailing
- Experience managing design teams and coordinating multiple projects
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (Revit/BIM experience advantageous)
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Strong commercial and programme awareness
Desirable
- Experience working for a specialist subcontractor
- Knowledge of rainscreen cladding, composite panels, and architectural metalwork
- Familiarity with BIM coordination and design management processes
