Job Title: Estimator (ECO / Social Housing / Retrofit Projects) Department: ECO & Retrofit Delivery Reports to: Commercial Manager / Operations Director Location: Birkenhead – Office Based Salary: £50K – £70K About Our Client Our client is a leading provider of energy-efficiency and renewable solutions across the UK. They work with homeowners, social landlords, and local authorities to deliver funded improvements through schemes such as ECO4, GBIS, and SHDF. Their projects include insulation, heating upgrades, renewables, and full retrofit solutions that make homes warmer, greener, and more affordable to run. They are now looking for an experienced Estimator to join their growing ECO and Retrofit team. Purpose of the Role The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for energy-efficiency and retrofit projects. This role plays a key part in securing new business, supporting tenders, and ensuring project profitability. You’ll work closely with the operations, design, and commercial teams to assess project requirements, prepare quotes, and ensure all pricing aligns with funding scheme rules and company standards. Key Responsibilities * Prepare detailed cost estimates and quotations for ECO, GBIS, SHDF, and retrofit projects. * Review drawings, specifications, and surveys to assess materials, labour, and overhead costs. * Obtain and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations. * Develop pricing schedules, tender documents, and project cost breakdowns. * Ensure estimates align with scheme funding rules, compliance requirements, and margins. * Support the bid process for social housing tenders and framework submissions. * Liaise with clients, surveyors, and delivery teams to clarify project scope and pricing details. * Maintain and update rate libraries, cost databases, and pricing models. * Work with the operations team to review job performance and actual costs versus estimates. * Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes and templates. Skills and Experience Required Essential: * Proven experience as an Estimator in construction (domestic), social housing, or energy-efficiency projects. * Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. * Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. * Proficiency in Excel and estimating software. * Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. * Organised, methodical, and able to work to deadlines. Desirable: * Experience with ECO4, GBIS, SHDF, or PAS 2035 retrofit schemes. * Knowledge of insulation, heating, or renewable installation costs. * Understanding of funding mechanisms and compliance requirements. * HNC/HND or degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline.
