We are looking for an experiencedTraditionalLadys Maid /Wardrobe Mistress to work in a private household in Henley-on-Thames.
Candidates will have gained her experience in the following environments:
- As a Ladys Maid working for Royal or reputed private households;
- The world of deluxe hospitality, clothe design, couture or tailoring.
Working in an established team of household staff, it is important that candidates can work as part of a team and are able to show a proven ability not only in looking after and caring for beautiful items of clothing and accessories, but that they also exhibit a real passion combined with an understanding of all the other duties, including housekeeping and food and beverage service, required from a traditional Lady's Maid.
Candidates will be relied on to be meticulous, and come with an acute and innate eye for detail and a can-do attitude.The Lady's Maid must be free to travel as the family have property in Scotland and England, and also in Europe, where they spend time in France and Switzerland, and occasionally further afield.
The position comes with lovely self contained accommodation in the form of:
- 3-bedroom house is provided in a local village.
- Candidates must drive and have own car. Note: No vehicles are provided, although use of pool car is available for work use.
- A generous service allowance is provided to cover bills, and
- Partners are permitted to live in the property.
Note:Candidatesmust be happy to work over Christmas, New Year and bank holidays along with 'school holiday' periods as required.
Applicants must:
- Have the legal right to work in the United Kingdom;
- Speak English fluently, while it would be advantageous if applicants spoke a second European language, such as French or perhaps German;
- Be free to travel both nationally and Internationally;
- Hold a valid driving Licence and own a car;
- Present an advanced understanding of the rules of both Etiquette and Protocol;
- Present excellent, checkable, references, and
- Have a valid DBS (although GBD can help secure this if necessary).
A Summary ofThe Ladys Maid Job Description
The complete care of the Principals wardrobe:
- Maintaining the order of the wardrobe, drawers, luggage, Dressing Room and storage areas.
- Pressing of items worn, cleaning of shoes, brushing of hats, bags and general maintenance of accessories.
- Subject to the Principals approval, items should be taken to the dry cleaner and a detailed log should be kept.
- Hand washing and ironing of the Principals personal washing.
- Packing and unpacking of clothes for travel, including the maintaining of a detailed travel log.
- To look after female house guests personal hand washing/pressing and bedroom and bathroom as required.
- Minor repairs to be dealt with by the Ladys Maid. Major repairs should be signalled to the Principal before decisions are made.
- Logging of outfits worn to repeat events such as Royal Ascot, dinner parties at annual shoots etc.
Other duties to include:
- The care and cleaning of the Main Bedroom Suite,
- Keeping in order of the dressing table, stock and supply of cosmetics and toiletries,
- Ensuring the bed linen and towels are changed as required, laundering and pressing of the sheets and towels,
- Personal shopping for the Principal as instructed,
- To prepare bedrooms in the evening i.e., close curtains, turn down beds etc,
- Occasional cooking, and
- Travelling with the Principal as required.
