Role and Responsibilities

The Business Development Manager (UK & Ireland) is responsible for delivering profitable sales growth through the strategic management of existing key accounts while developing new business opportunities across the UK and Ireland.

The role follows an 80/20 commercial strategy, with approximately 80% focused on generating new business, developing a strong sales pipeline, winning new customers and expanding the businesses market presence. 20% focused will then be focused on maximising revenue, profitability and customer retention within existing strategic accounts.

Working closely with Account Managers, Operations, and the Leadership Team, the Business Development Manager will strengthen the businesses market position, deliver sustainable profitable growth and support the company's long-term commercial objectives.

Skills and experience

  • New Business Development
  • Identify, qualify and secure profitable new business opportunities throughout the UK & Ireland.
  • Develop and execute a strategic business development plan aligned with company growth objectives.
  • Build and maintain a healthy sales pipeline using the company CRM system.
  • Research target markets, competitors and emerging industry opportunities.
  • Generate leads through networking, referrals, exhibitions, digital platforms and proactive prospecting.
  • Conduct customer meetings, presentations and site visits to demonstrate the businesses capabilities .
  • Prepare and present commercial proposals and quotations.
  • Negotiate pricing and commercial agreements that protect company margin.
  • Successfully onboard new customers, ensuring a smooth transition into the business.
  • Meet or exceed agreed new business revenue and gross margin targets.
  • Existing Account Development
  • Manage and develop a portfolio of strategic customer accounts.
  • Build trusted relationships with key customer stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to increase spend through cross-selling, upselling and product innovation.
  • Conduct regular business reviews with key customers.
  • Improve customer retention through proactive account management.
  • Ensure customers operate within agreed commercial and contractual terms.
  • Work collaboratively with Account Managers to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Commercial Performance
  • Deliver agreed sales, margin and profitability targets.
  • Maximise gross margin across both new and existing business.
  • Produce accurate sales forecasts and pipeline reports.
  • Monitor competitor activity and market trends.
  • Work alongside Finance to support cash collection and minimise debtor risk.
  • Customer & Project Management
  • Prepare accurate quotations for new and existing customers.
  • Coordinate customer projects from enquiry through implementation.
  • Brief internal departments effectively to ensure successful delivery.
  • Resolve customer issues promptly and professionally.
  • Act as a commercial ambassador for the business.
  • Internal Collaboration
  • Work closely with Account Managers to ensure customer expectations are achieved.
  • Share market intelligence and customer feedback with the Leadership Team.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promote collaboration across all departments .
  • Reporting & Administration
  • Maintain accurate CRM records for all customer interactions, opportunities and forecasts.
