An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced IT Manager to join a highly regarded education organisation in South Wiltshire. The role offers a salary of up to £48,000 DOE, 26 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays, a generous pension, Health Cash Plan, Employee Assistance Programme, gym membership options, cycle to work and car lease schemes, retail discounts and ongoing professional development.

Working as part of a collaborative IT team, you will take responsibility for the IT infrastructure, networks, cyber security and core systems. You will also lead a small technical team and help deliver an ambitious digital strategy that supports teaching, learning and the wider school community.

About the role

As IT Manager, you will be responsible for the day to day management, security, reliability and performance of the technology environment. This is a hands on IT management position combining technical infrastructure expertise, project delivery and team leadership. It would suit someone who enjoys resolving complex technical issues, improving IT services and supporting the development of technical colleagues.

Key responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain the school's IT infrastructure, servers, switches, routers and network environment
  • Ensure the security, resilience and availability of core IT systems
  • Lead infrastructure upgrades and technology improvement projects
  • Manage staff and pupil device deployment
  • Support Windows Server, Microsoft technologies and key applications
  • Maintain backup, cyber security and disaster recovery processes
  • Line manage, support and mentor IT Technicians
  • Oversee the IT Service Desk, asset management and technical documentation
  • Work closely with senior leadership to support the school's Digital Strategy
  • Manage third party technology suppliers and service providers where required
About you

You will have previous experience managing complex IT infrastructure and network environments, together with strong technical knowledge across networking, servers, cyber security and Microsoft technologies.

You should also have:

  • Strong networking knowledge, including switches, routers and wireless technologies
  • Experience supporting Windows Server and Microsoft environments
  • Experience delivering infrastructure upgrades and digital transformation projects
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Previous experience leading, supervising or mentoring technical staff
  • Relevant IT qualifications or equivalent commercial experience
  • Experience within a school, college, university or wider education environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
