A pivotal leadership role at the heart of the West Midlands business community, Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC) is the leading voice of business in Greater Birmingham, representing and supporting thousands of employers across the region. With over 213 years of heritage, GBCC combines civic influence with commercial delivery to support a thriving regional economy.
We are now seeking an exceptional Finance Director to join our Senior Leadership Team following the retirement of the current postholder.
The role
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Finance Director will be a trusted adviser to the CEO and Board, with responsibility for financial strategy, organisational resilience and corporate governance. You will lead financial planning across a diverse income base spanning membership subscriptions, commercial services and competitively won public‑funded programmes, ensuring strong liquidity, robust forecasting and high‑quality insight to support strategic decision‑making. Beyond core financial leadership, the role plays a key part in strengthening governance as Company Secretary, overseeing organisational risk and acting as Executive Sponsor for GBCC’s digital transformation programme, a significant multi‑year initiative central to delivery of the organisation’s 2030 strategy. This is a broad, senior leadership role with real influence, suited to an experienced Finance Director who enjoys working at the intersection of strategy, governance and organisational performance.
About you
You will be a qualified accountant with significant post‑qualification experience in senior financial leadership roles, ideally within complex, multi‑stakeholder environments. You will bring:
- Strong technical and commercial judgement
- Experience working closely with Boards or Trustees
- A track record of playing a leading role in organisational change or transformation
- Confidence operating at executive level and translating complex issues for non‑finance audiences
- High integrity, strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative leadership style
You will not be expected to be a subject‑matter expert in digital transformation or the core operational areas reporting in to this role (HR, IT, Health & Safety) but will be comfortable utilising external advice and exercising sound executive judgement.
GBCC is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from all backgrounds.
