Job Summary

The Marketing and Communications Manager will be responsible for the management, development, and delivery of an innovative communications strategy for GMMH. The postholder will provide expert professional communications advice and support to GMMH managers and other colleagues across the Trust, including media handling issues on a wide range of highly complex and often highly sensitive and potentially contentious issues.

This role will also be responsible for managing robust and dynamic staff engagement mechanisms to support effective internal communications across the Trust. The post holder will work closely with the Workforce, Organisation Development, Quality, and Research & Innovation Teams to ensure message and channel alignment in branding, attraction strategies, and recruitment positioning.

The post holder will manage communications across a range of campaigns and initiatives to support staff engagement, external stakeholders, and local communities.

The post holder will be responsible for effectively managing budgets, physical assets, and other resources as required.

Main duties of the job

  • Inspire and motivate the communications team by setting a clear vision and strategic direction, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Manage and oversee internal and external communications, ensuring consistency and alignment with NHS and GMMH brand guidelines.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and communication plans to promote GMMH services and initiatives.
  • Manage the ongoing creation of engaging content for newsletters, social media, and other communication channels.
  • Oversee the performance management process, providing regular feedback, setting goals, and supporting professional development to ensure high standards are met.
  • Oversee the project management of events and programmes such as staff awards, learning events, and launches/openings of services or buildings.

Qualifications Essential

  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject and significant experience of working at a similar level in a specialist area.
  • Further training or significant experience in project management, public relations, leadership, or management.

Experience Essential

  • Track record of managing a high-performing communications team to deliver internal and external communications.
  • Recent experience of working in or with the NHS.
  • Experience of devising and executing successful internal and external communication and engagement plans.
  • Experience of managing high-profile, reputation management issues.
  • Experience of crisis management, responding to emerging situations which may be distressing in nature.

Knowledge Essential

  • Have a clear understanding of all communication methods and channels, including new media.
  • Demonstrate an advanced knowledge and in-depth experience of using web-based content management systems.

Skills and Abilities Essential

  • Evidence of success in a team management role.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret information, pre-empt and evaluate issues, and recommend an appropriate course of action to address the issues.
  • Demonstrated capabilities to manage team and own projects and make informed decisions in the absence of required information, working to tight and often changing timescales.
