Salary: £39,959 - £48,117 per annum pro rata.

Contract: Permanent Full time – 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:00–16:00.

Job overview

Main duties of the job

  • Assess, develop and implement care packages for service users within the framework of the CPA in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Develop and implement evidence‑based interventions for service users with identified or suspected learning disability and/or neurodivergent needs.
  • Use enhanced learning disability nursing skills with forensic clients who may be difficult to assess and engage.
  • Manage own caseload, utilising nursing skills and resources to provide high quality care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Complete service‑specified assessment tools within agreed timescales for those referred to the service.
  • Assess, develop and implement care packages within the CPA framework and be accountable for own professional practice.
  • Manage a defined caseload of complex and challenging service users in custodial settings.
  • Ensure clinical effectiveness with patients, families and carers, facilitating engagement and therapeutic co‑operation through flexible strategies.
  • Maintain an up‑to‑date learning disabilities register and conduct annual health checks for those with recognised learning disabilities.
  • Provide training and advice to clinical and non‑clinical staff, including training on learning disabilities, learning difficulties and autism awareness.
  • Work in close partnership with the integrated healthcare team within the prison.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Evidence of post‑registration training and ongoing professional development.

Experience

  • 2 years post‑registration experience and completion of a preceptorship programme.
  • Experience working with service users in a forensic setting.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of learning disabilities and neuro‑developmental conditions.
  • Knowledge of common mental health problems.
  • Awareness of NICE guidelines relating to the care of individuals with learning neuro‑developmental conditions.
  • Working knowledge of the stepped care model.

Skills

  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of factors affecting secure mental health and the contemporary mental health agenda.
  • Ability to work independently, plan workload effectively and respond to changing priorities.
  • Ability to write reports and present information concisely.
