An exciting opportunity is available to work within the Adult Forensic Secure Mental Health setting at Prestwich Hospital, providing a quality service to users with complex and challenging mental health needs. The role involves managing an own caseload and working closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide assessment, treatment and rehabilitation.

Main duties of the job:

  • Manage a defined specialist caseload using evidence‑based, client‑centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
  • Deliver individual and group interventions drawn from relevant frames of reference.
  • Develop skills and knowledge through participation in a Professional Development Planning process to meet the competency framework.
  • Be research and professional standards aware, using evidence to support and develop practice.
  • Work within a secure mental health setting, utilising evidence‑based assessments to identify risk within the performance of occupation and contribute to risk formulation.
  • Work autonomously with service users for extended periods within community settings as part of their rehabilitation programme, requiring sustained physical effort and appropriate stamina.

Leave and benefits:

27 days annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 29 days after 5 years and 33 days after 10 years.

Qualifications:

Degree in Occupational Therapy.

Experience:

  • Experience of applying OT intervention and assessment.
  • Awareness of mental health assessment tools and their application in practice.
  • Experience of placements/working within a mental health setting.
  • Experience of utilising the Model of Human Occupation in practice.

Skills & abilities:

  • Effective communication skills, including the processing of complex and sensitive information.
  • Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance.
  • Aware of the principles of the recovery model.

Knowledge:

  • An understanding of the Model of Human Occupation.
  • Knowledge of current best practice in mental health OT.
  • Knowledge of trauma‑informed care.
  • Knowledge of the social difficulties experienced by people with complex mental health needs.

Other requirements:

Ability to work independently with service users for extended periods of time within community settings as part of their rehabilitation programme.

Professional registration:

You must hold the appropriate UK professional registration.

Pre‑employment checks:

All positions within the Trust are subject to satisfactory pre‑employment checks, including DBS or equivalent checks where required. Post‑holders who require a DBS must enrol in the DBS Update Service and maintain registration throughout employment.
