Job overview
The Salford Mental Health Liaison Team (SMHLT) provides a 24‑hour, 7 day a week service to Salford Royal Hospital (SRH), part of the Northern Care Alliance (NCA).
The post holder will join a multidisciplinary psychiatric liaison service integrated into the acute hospital while maintaining strong links to mental health services.
SMHLT is one of the most established liaison teams in Greater Manchester, with strong links across the city‑wide liaison network.
The team provides rapid assessments, treatments and interventions to aid an early safe discharge of patients back into the most appropriate setting.
The current psychiatric liaison services receive about 500‑600 referrals a month.
Main duties of the job
- Ensure junior medical staff working with the post holder operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant.
- Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
- Record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
- Participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and, where appropriate, for the whole mental health service.
- Participate in annual appraisal for consultants.
- Attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
- Maintain good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists for CPD.
- Attend local peer supervision meetings and join CPD peer group (support available).
- Maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval process, and abide by professional codes of conduct.
- Participate annually in a job plan review with the clinical manager to ensure the post is developed in line with changes in service configuration and delivery.
Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- MRCPsych or MRCPsych‑equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of appointment.
- Approved clinician status or able to achieve within three months of appointment.
- Approved under S12 or able to achieve within three months of appointment.
- In good standing with the GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice.
