Provide expert clinical leadership in wound care and tissue viability across mental health services, delivering advanced assessment and management of complex wounds while influencing practice, improving patient outcomes, and reducing avoidable harm such as pressure ulcers.
Main duties:
- Be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for wound care and pressure ulcers in Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust (GMMH).
- Provide advanced clinical assessment and management of complex wounds within inpatient GMMH settings and offer support/education to staff on wound care.
- Deliver direct patient care for complex cases and support the delivery of pressure area care and wound care in GMMH.
- Provide specialist advice and consultancy to multidisciplinary teams (MDTs).
- Lead education and training programmes for staff.
- Lead on the pressure ulcer panel and wound prevention group.
- Attend key meetings and conferences on behalf of GMMH for wound care.
- Support and lead quality improvement, audit, rapid reviews of care and governance processes.
- Lead on and contribute to policy development and service improvement.
- Advise on clinical risk and areas for escalation.
- Act as a clinical leader and role model across the Trust.
- Line manage individuals as required.
- Develop relationships with Acute Providers/Community Providers to support good working relationships and appropriate referral mechanisms.

Person specification:
Knowledge: Understanding of mental health and physical health interaction.
Experience: Registered Adult Nurse with current NMC registration. Understanding of supporting patients with SMI, self-neglect, self-harm, and challenging engagement, ensuring parity between physical and mental health care.
Legal and Regulatory Requirements: All positions within the Trust are subject to satisfactory pre‑employment checks. Where required, DBS subscription via the DBS Update Service with a fee of £16 per year. Disclosures required under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (England and Wales). Employer mandatory: appropriate UK professional registration.
